Please don't think I am thick but I need some advice!
I have a TV with built in freeview.
I want a machine that will record one channel whilst I am watching another.
Do I need to buy a freeview recorder or is there another machine I could use as I already have the freeview on my telly?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Pam

You are not thick- was thinking of buying one of these for my SIL for Christmas so I'd be interested in the answer too.The Cabbage

You need a PVR. There are many makes available and the one I chose is Topfield 5810 which has twin tuners enabling recording two channels whilst watching another and 500GB storage space. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Topfield-digital-upscaling-personal-recorder/dp/B00190XNOK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1290503262&sr=8-2

look out for a dvd recorder that has freeview- most likely will have double hard discs, for the 2 channel stuff..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
I think it can get confusing as technology moves so fast, but having done some reading for when i want one then the choices seem to be as follows:
A freeview recorder is known as a pvr(personal video recorder) and this is what you need. They all have freeview built in anyway. Most will let you record one whilst watching another,or even record 2 whilst watching another channel.Read what it says on the box first or ask an assistant.
The other option is a dvd recorder.Similar idea but you can record programmes to a dvd to keep as you wpould have done video tapes.the only downside is that i believe there is less storage space on the disc and possibly a bit more difficult to operate.
Hope this is a bit clearer now(this applies to freeview. If you have sky or virgin or freesat you will need a compatible pvr for these systems)

thank you for all your replies.
I am a bit clearer on what I need now.
Unfortunately I cannot get a signal for sky where I live. If I could I would have gone for the freesat box.
Merry christmas to you all.
Thanks again

These humax pvr9150t are a good buy. Refurbs but I couldn't tell it wasn't new.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I have just purchased the Humax PVR from Tesco & absolutely love it but the downside that I have is that it sometimes freezes which is a pain.Comping from May 2012

Thank you to all that post & contribute, I think you are wonderful, I could not achieve without your help
