Update:
I can get into F12 Boot menu and from there into Utility Partition. Does that offer any options? Or should I just boot with the recovery console disc I've created?
you should do NOTHING until you are happy you have completed all backing up of your data, you are verging on a hard drive wipe with any action you take above0 -
running the chkdsk /r command from the recovery console will not delete anything from your hard drive it will only attemt to repair any errors it findsIf you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.0

I started running checks. The SATA disk check isn't complete but has thrown up this on the read test: Test Result Fail, Error code 0F00:0244. Msg: Block 59839: Uncorrectable data error or write protected.
So corrupt/bad sectors on hard disk? Is it still valid to try recovery console?Apparently, if you lose one sense, others senses are enhanced. That's why those who have no sense of humour have an enlarged sense of self-importance.0 -
running chkdsk /r from the recovery console could repair the problem,it will not make things any worse, also read this http://www.ihatedell.net/forum/phpBB2/error-code-0f000244-t2099,start,15.html

It looks like it gets worse!
From Recovery Console:
CHKDSK /R - "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems."
FIXBOOT - "FIXBOOT cannot find te system drive, or the drive specified is not valid."
C:\DIR - "an error occured during directory enumeration."Apparently, if you lose one sense, others senses are enhanced. That's why those who have no sense of humour have an enlarged sense of self-importance.0 -
I don't know about of your data how more important this partition. If you can't a recovery partition. I suggest to IT recovery data Shop. When my laptop died Fields provided a quick and safe alternative to using software that I had no experience in using. A guaranteed result from a professional company.
