Hi All,
Tried booting my home PC this am as normal but it went straight to BSD.
I've tried Safe Mode, last known good config, etc and all go to BSD.
What now??? Any tips??? Any advice???
Thanks.

What is the error message displayed. Post that maybe it will help can be numerous reason to why i.e memory, hard drive or an OS issue.0

"A problem has been detectd and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time etc, etc...
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defrag or backup utilities. Check hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption then restart.

I can't do any of that as it won't boot up that far.
We've had the BSD while using it (normally with multiple users logged on) reasonably often. There has been no new hardware or software (that I know of!!) added recently. Hardware attached = printer, scanner and wireless dongle.Apparently, if you lose one sense, others senses are enhanced. I would try using an xp bootable disk then go to recovery screen and do a check disk hopefully that can repair without formatting.
just run CHKDSK

Nope, no disks - it's a Dell without a recovery disk and pre-loaded XP Home.Apparently, if you lose one sense, others senses are enhanced. That's why those who have no sense of humour have an enlarged sense of self-importance.0

Dells have a recovery partition
hit CTRL F11 as it boots
can restore the original software but lose all your data (you could recover this first with a linux boot cd)Ex forum ambassador

did you 'do' anything to the PC recently? how far thru the boot process does it seem to get -windows loading screen at all?
Do you have any data on the hard drive you 'need' or is it all backed up and we can happily wipe the thing?
Do you have an intact Microsoft sticker on your PC somewhere and can read the your license number to reinstall if necessary (don't post the actual number on the internet)?0 -
I'd rather not lose data (obviously!!)Dells have a recovery partition

This laptop has XP Pro on it - can I get a boot cd from here and use that?Apparently, if you lose one sense, others senses are enhanced. That's why those who have no sense of humour have an enlarged sense of self-importance.0 -
Nothing has been changed on the PC (AFAIK). When booting, the Windows logo and the moving bar are shown (with OS and BIOS data) once the bar gets to the end, BSD appears. When booting in safe mode, files load until it gets to a certain stage then stops/freezes. Last file shown is: ....partition/sys32/drivers/Mup.sysdid you 'do' anything to the PC recently? how far thru the boot process does it seem to get -windows loading screen at all?

There is data on there I'd like to keep so wiping isn't really an option currently.
Microsoft sticker is intacct and I can read the number.Apparently, if you lose one sense, others senses are enhanced. That's why those who have no sense of humour have an enlarged sense of self-importance.0
