E tech fake sky survey to sell repair cover

I received a withheld phone number call from a Co. calling themselves e-tech and alleging to be conducting a survey on behalf of Sky.

This intrigued me as I work for Sky and know that if Sky were indeed doing a survey, they wouldn't be calling me as they'd know I have a staff account. Aside from which, there was that withheld number...

Turns out that this lovely lady wished me to purchase a repair warranty for my sky equipment; what's even lovelier is that she said she was Sky...

When I informed her that I worked for Sky and that sky do not call up customers offering warranties, the phine went down quickly.:rotfl:

No idea who this new lot are...makes a change from Digital Satellitte Services tho who usually call...they usually hang up too when you mention you work for Sky-perhaps everyone should say that!

I had a phonecall from some eejits trying to sell me 'insurance' too a while back..When I refused,I got the 'list of benefits' of having the insurance...I refused on the basis that I didn't need to..so the eejit started to explain the benefits again (By this stage,I was having a little fun with them) so I hummed & harred...refused again so the eejit asked why.
So I said I could fix it myself if anything went wrong...No you cant says the eejit...Yes I can said I....Why said the eejit...

Cuz I work for cable & satalite engineer!!!! said I & he hung up!
  • I've just had a call from Etech, a man telling me he needed to update information for Sky on the products I have. He was very insistent and kept repeating the same thing again and again. This is the second call I've had, first one was about 3 or 4 months ago. Glad I read the posts on here and didn't get involved.:rotfl:

They've called me 3 times in the last 2 days, I always tell'em where to get.

As of 30 mins ago it's now 4 times.
  • If they fail, just call Sky and say that you want to terminate - they send a repairman FoC or Free replacement the next day....

Just had a (witheld number) call from ETECH - clearly stating they were calling '..on behalf of Sky...' to sell repair insurance. Told them I no longer have Sky (not true but it might get them off my back).

Big question is where do they(ETECH) get the information from ? Do Sky sell on the contact details of all their customers ? Or is there an insider (inside Sky) providing the numbers (for a reward).

BE AWARE - ETECH are still trying their underhand sales routine !!!!

Over the last two or three weeks I have had ~ 6 calls from persons unknown from the "subcontinent" (last one was "Tim" !!!) who wanted to ask me questions about my Sky Dish, box, packages etc - as a routine I'm now telling them that I don't have Sky - usually results in disbelief ! but I insist that I haven't got it -then hang up....but still the calls come.
  • Hello, just got a call from these guys (including some others), that makes it 3 in 2 days. I decided to be a bit proactive for a change. I asked to speak to a line-manager who was very helpful. The registered postal address of the company is in Texas??? (so he says). He then informed me that the work they undertake is sub-contracted from a company called Satellite Repair Services. I requested to be removed from their database forthwith. I'll look into this and see if I can find any more info on them. If I do - anybody got any links to tell me what I can do from there?

Come on, there are now in excess of 10 million Sky subscribers in the UK (I'm guessing one home in 3?). So at least one in 3 random cold calls will find you a Sky subscriber.
It's like calling and saying you're calling from Microsoft to 'remove viruses'. If your victim has a computer, there's about an 85% chance that it will be running Windows.
No need to buy contact details, you just keep dialling.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I had a call this week from "Hannah" (from Bangaluru!) who told me she had some wonderful news about cost savings on my telephone & TV Package from BT!!(what TV package??) - I decide to have some fun - "I haven't got a telephone line" -"what?" --- " I've had my telephone line removed" - "but,but....." --" I'm speaking to you direct with my mind" ---"What??"
" I can see you have no underwear on"
"splutter,sputter...." - rings off - I'll have to think up another story for the next one!!
