I know this is a bit off topic but if anyone is like me and has prawns as a starter, i have a fussy lot who like normal prawns(not king etc) but like them juicy big and sweet well after years of trying allsorts the best i can reccommend is Tesco's finest Canadian large prawns which are always on offer at half price at this time of year and they are on offer at minute £3.00 for 300g(i think) they are lovely better than m&s finest, sainsb, morrisons and fishmonger.
I have 3 bags in lol i love them but i defo not paying normal price of £6.00 a bag :O think they are on offer till beginning of dec.0 -
just two courses for us 2 adults , 2 children, as we have usually have stuffed our selves with bacon rolls, muffin and selection boxes since 6am
about 1pm: Turkey, pigs in blankets, plain chipolatas, plain bacon rolls (everyone likes different in our house), stuffing balls, roast potatoes, broccolli, chanteray carrots, roasted parsnips, sprouts (for me), plus another veg depending on what I get when shopping.
Pudding is usually a chocolate trifle sometimes a couple of hours later.
Then of to mother in laws for party food, more chocs, sherry trifle, more presents for the kids and lots of excitable children noise!!0 -
We are having scallops wrapped in proscuitto with asparagus for starter, fillet of beef with all the trimmings for main and homemade raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Yum!! There are only 2 of us so we never have turkey. Im in charge of starter and dessert and he does the main. Making me hungry just thinking about it..0

since i can remember we always had a party tea at my mums but for the first yr ever we are not and going boxing day instead so for 'tea' we are having cheese and crackers, selection boxes/sweets and pringles if anyone actually has room!:xmastree: :rudolf: :xmastree:0

Jeez, all this talk of Christmas dinners is making me very hungry! I've been looking forward to it since last Boxing day! All of your meals sound very nice by the way

We'll have a bacon buttie in the morning with plenty of tea
Starter is usually smoked salmon for those who do (not myself) and melon for those who don't. This year we're going to have ciabatta with some dipping oils/balsamic vinegar/houmous for a starter for a change. Perhaps still with the smoked salmon.
It sounds filling but that's around 2pm and we don't have our dinner until about 4pm so it saves filling up on chocolates!
Main meal around 4pm (whenever the men get back from the pub lol) consists of roast beef/pork/chicken as no one is particularly fussed about turkey, pigs in blankets, yorkshire puddings, stuffing, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, carrot and swede and some sprouts. Oh and gallons of gravy! Almost forgot the apple sauce, THE best bit!
There isn't really a set dessert as we all fill up on the main, but always pleny of ice cream or gateau around at that time of the year, not to mention all the choccies! We have cheese and crackers in the evening if anyone fancies.
Boxing day is buffet day with all the left overs from Christmas day and a few vol-au-vents.
I can't wait!!!0 -
No starter, Turkey, Goose, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, honey roast parsnips, carrots, sprouts, stuffing, gravy, then trifle or xmas pud and rum sauce or gateau and cream or all three.!! i never do mash and i never do yorkshires. Then fresh coffee.0

It all sounds so delicious.
We have bucks fizz with smoked salmon blinis and prawns wrapped in filo to nibble on whilst opening pressies.
For lunch we have pate and toast, prawn cocktail or soup to start, followed by Roast turkey, stuffing, bread sauce & cranberry, sausages wrapped in bacon, sprouts with chestnuts, vichy carrots, broccoli and hollandaise, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding (husband insists) and gravy. Pudding this year is Heston Blumenthals Christmas Pud with the caramelised whole orange in the middle with Brandy Sauce and Trifle, followed by cheese, biscuits and grapes.
Games in the evening, with christmas cake, mince pies and chocolates. Maybe a turkey sandwich or two ......
Boxing day is cold roast turkey, cold roast ham (from christmas eve) and sausage rolls, potato salad etc.... yum

We are having a nice quiet 'just the two of us' xmas this year so we have our own xmassy food traditions:
In the morning OH has gammon and orange juice and I have smoked salmon and bagels (and Aldi 'caviar' if they are doing it again this year
)
For lunch we have a nice piece of steak with creamy peppercorn sauce - OH has chips and I'll have roasted butternut squash - we also have sprouts as a nod to tradition (and they are my fav veg!)
We'll probably have stilton and port later on - and xmas chocs and biscuits of course
We don't go for the turkey/roast dinner when it's just us two as by the time the 25th comes around we are all turkeyied out. We will have one turkey dinner with OH's parents(this weekend), one with my parents (next weekend) and one with DD (weekend before xmas) as she is spending the holiday abroad - after that we just couldn't face another one - or the washing up after :rotfl:0 -
We are having a nice quiet 'just the two of us' xmas this year
DH and I are also having a quiet Christmas day to ourselves this year, in the evening we'll be visiting family with presents. For the past 11 years I've always done our Christmas dinner, unless we've been guests elsewhere, but last week DH surprised me by saying he'd like to cook it :T So I'll be kicking back and relaxing while he does it all
As for what we'll be having... hmmm... no starter, we never bother.
Main: Beef or turkey, with all the usual trimmings
Pud: Either a choc sponge with custard, or a gatteux. Neither of us are keen on Christmas cake or Christmas pudding so that's definitely off!"Your life is what your thoughts make it"
"If you can't bite, don't show your teeth!"
R.i.P our beautiful girl Suki. We'll love and miss you forever
