ASDA do a very similar deal of their own brand - looks remarkably like the Tesco one!

I find the Asda razor gives a closer shave than the Mach 3 and a damn sight cheaper too!

Boot have an own brand swivel head 3 blade razor for £3.29 and Triple Blades Swivel Head 10 pack for £4.49
    - few pennies more than tesco, but I'm not a fan of them and get the boots ones with my boots points.

Don't you mean to try the new Five bladed razor, as 3 and 4 blades are old news.

Somebody posted earlier that Aldi sell a blade that fits the Mach 3 and is quite good
    S!!!!horpe
  • Why has that bloke posted a link to an even more extortionately priceded blade..beats me!

For me the likes of gillette and wilkinsons have priced themselves out of the market place i'm just not prepared to pay what they are asking

people should realise that for the manufacturer there is a huge mark up on blades and they cost pence to manufacture

lets find a substitute thats every bit as good as these rip off mercahants and let us know what you recommend

Yeah someone recommended the Aldi one...it's currently on special offer for £1.99 with 200ml shaving gel costing 99p.

Are the Tesco/Asda ones any good?

You're completely right mike_the_bike, Gillette are pricing themselves out...but is there really a worthy alternative?????

It's my view that the whole shaving blade market is an expensive con. Human nature plays into the manufacturer's arms. The concept of a 'good shave' is almost as subjective and woolly as 'fine' wine, beauty products or the sound quality from a hi-fi system. If you wrap a product in impressive packaging and an expensive marketing drive, you can sell anything with a subjective material value for a premium price.....and have naive people swear blind that your product actually has a significant advantage over the cheaper alternative.

Firstly remember that a disposable blade is a disposable blade. I seriously doubt that the manufacturing process of the cheapest blade you can buy differs significantly from that of the most expensive. I also seriously doubt that there is any real significant difference between shaving with a single blade as opposed to 4 or 5 blades. I'd really like to see a proper scientific clinical trial before I'd change my mind.

I was stupid enough a few years ago to buy an expensive Gillette Excel 3-blade razor. I was even more stupid over the following years and continued to buy Gillette Excel blades at inflated prices. Then I found that the Tesco 'three blades' cartridges (pictured above) fit the Gillette razor perfectly and I can't identify any difference apart from the cost and the packaging.

I presume that there must be legal (or market) reasons why Tesco don't advertise the fact their blades fit the Gillette Excel razor....but they do fit perfectly. And I suspect that the same applies to the ASDA offering....and others.

So my advice to others is to dump Gillette, open your mind a little, realise that you're being taken for a ride and save a significant amount of money in the process.
