I've never had anyone in a Nationwide branch try to hard sell me anything - am I alone?

Never had a hard sell from Nationwide. If making a large deposit to my current account the teller might ask if I have plans for the money. I say yes I have and that's that.

No you are not alone, when I visit I tell them what I want and they sort it out and answer any questions that I have, they have (to date) never tried to sell me anything. :)

I applied for one by phone yesterday and queued on the phone line for a few minutes (I wouldn't have done had it not been an 0800 number). It took several minutes to open while the poor woman had to read out her lengthy script. Why the heck don't they provide an e-bond or online or postal application option and make it easier for everyone?

I haven't any recent experience of opening an account in branch. In the past an appointment hasn't been necessary if one was prepared to wait as long as is necessary for someone to become available.

    Hi,
could you write down the telephone number you called to apply?

I am a Nationwide customer, but cannot get to a branch for the moment. And would happily apply on the phone (even with a wait)!

Why not look up your branch here

Or phone the national Nationwide No and ask them to post you an application form that you can fill in at home and post back to them with your funds? :)
  • I opened one on the 0800 111 4430 number last week. Took a few days to actually be processed but internet banking indicates that the deposit (from FlexAccount) was backdated to the date of my call.

Don't forget folks that there are two accounts available here.

    1) 3yr Christmas ISA paying 4.50% annual interest or 4.40% monthly interest. (no tax as it's an ISA)
Min investment £1000 max £5100 per person.

    and

    2) 3yr Christmas bond fixed rate, paying exactly the same interset as the ISA but tax is deducted therefore a standard rate taxpayer will receive 3.60% with annual interest and 3.52% with monthly interest.
Min investment £1000 max investment £5000 or £10,000 for joint accounts.

And Yes you can open one of each type of account if you wish.

i'm going to sound dumb, but is a flexaccount one of the qualifying accounts? As I have a flexaccount that I haven't used in years, but i believe it is still active and has money in it, and this isn't that bad an account for me anyway

"Available to existing Nationwide savers". On the website Flexaccount is under the Current Account tab and there is another tab for Savings Accounts. So it would seem that a Flexaccount is not a savings account. But perhaps they merely mean to say savers as opposed to borrowers so best ask the Nationwide to be sure.
