Just taken 24 month contract and made redundant

I really can't understand why anyone would want to be tied to a contract like this in the first place, it'll cost £840 over the 2yrs. You can buy a HTC Wildfire unlocked from Play for under £225 and throw a £7.50 T-Mobile sim in it and over the same period of time it's cost you under half the amount, you can switch networks after 12 months if something better comes along etc...
Maybe its just how I've been raised, always had it drummed into me that never get anything on credit unless it's a mortgage, the first question I ask myself before taking out my £7.50 T-Mobile contract was can I afford it if my financies change (which is an easy yes, but I still asked it); I hate all these adverts on TV telling you to get loans or buy this and pay weekly, get everything you could dream of for Xmas etc....then phone this number and we'll get all your debts cleared.... They all should be banned IMHO...
Anyway I'll get off my soapbox now...
To answer your question, speak to Vodafone and see if they can drop the tariff then go from there.
it doesnt always work out so negativily on contracts
though i would never go 24 months
i generally use the cashback sites to cut into the costs of my contracts
i also try and go for companies that let me get a sim free handset which increases resale values0 -
If anyone can show me a standard "list-price" mobile contract that works out cheaper than buying the handset outright and adding a SIM Only card, I'd love to see it...0

cant be bothered looking, but i seem to recall a tesco deal on the iphone 4 that worked out as a good deal over the 12 month contract vs sim free and calls0 -

I agree. But aspirational desire clouds judgement and, after all "It's only £x per month". People don't think ahead and that is why there is so much debt around.
It's a phone - a mobile one that lets you contact your friends and family. That's what it is really about and you should be looking at doing that the cheapest way when you get one. By all means, if you have sufficient resources of your own - and can guarantee having them for the length of the contract - go for the gizmo add-ons, but get real, folks. There are a lot of people going to lose their jobs over the next 2 years. You could be one of them. Do you really want to have a £840 debt there when you have rent, mortgage, elec, gas, council tax, TV licence and, of course, food to buy??
I am sure poppy246 would now agree - a bit late, perhaps.0 -

Can you stop digging up old topics to try and make Vodafone look like they care? You are a PR and damage limitation department, don't pretend that you care.0

I think thats a bit unfair. It would have been more useful to 12 posts Poppy 3 weeks ago but it is an offer of help.
I have PMd her to make sure she knows and doesnt miss out on the help :-)0 -
Hi mate you can cancel within 7 or 14 days or getting contract some even do within 30 days all you pay is call charges0

just got the HTC Desire HD at 25 a month for 24 months. This will cost 600 over the 2 years but I think the handset SIM free would cost over 400 and pretty confident that 600 minutes, 500 texts and unlimited internet would cost moe than 100 per year.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
