Do you have any kind of insurance?
What month are you in?
What phone was it?
It may be able to raise a decent amount to cover the cost of the contract while you find more work, then stick the sim in a cheaper phone. If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -
I would be inclined to contact Vodafone and explain that you will not be able to pay the debt /That fails contact Citizens Advice as they are quite useful for managing debts .
Its a debt in that you have a contract to pay x amount or pay xx amount to get out of the contract .

No, no chance whatsoever. This is regularly raised and the answer is always the same. It's a valid contract regardless of your financial position.
Your best bet is to sell the handset and put that against the ETC. You might ask them to drop you down to a cheaper tariff first, but very unlikely they'll do this in the first month of the contract.
The only ways to break your contract legally are death or bankruptcy, presumably neither of those are options you want to consider. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi anyone know if I can cancel my vodafone contract due to being made redundant and unable to afford £35.00 per month.
I know there is a recession on, but are you not confident that you may find a new role soon?
Perhaps they may take the handset back, if it is is within a week, but somehow would also envisage that it will harm your future ability to sign up for a new contract.0 -
They will not take the handset back, it is now second hand and only saleable as such. Even if they did, that does not negate the airtime contract, which remains in place. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

sell the handset
beg vodafone to drop your tarriff
set the money from the phone sale aside to cover the monthly bill for as long as it can0 -
Selling the phone second hand would not raise that much money, they are currently going for 150 pounds on ebay. The chance of Vodafone reducing the tariff the first month into a contract are almost non existent.0

I really can't understand why anyone would want to be tied to a contract like this in the first place, it'll cost £840 over the 2yrs. You can buy a HTC Wildfire unlocked from Play for under £225 and throw a £7.50 T-Mobile sim in it and over the same period of time it's cost you under half the amount, you can switch networks after 12 months if something better comes along etc...
Maybe its just how I've been raised, always had it drummed into me that never get anything on credit unless it's a mortgage, the first question I ask myself before taking out my £7.50 T-Mobile contract was can I afford it if my financies change (which is an easy yes, but I still asked it); I hate all these adverts on TV telling you to get loans or buy this and pay weekly, get everything you could dream of for Xmas etc....then phone this number and we'll get all your debts cleared.... They all should be banned IMHO...
Anyway I'll get off my soapbox now...
To answer your question, speak to Vodafone and see if they can drop the tariff then go from there.0
