How much longer can this go on.?
I'm going snow, stir-crazy- rear-wheel drive BMW is carp in the snow, I know the weather is not my fault but am starting to worry that my job will be in jeopardy if I cant get there.

Fantasia, more snow here and unable to use the car. I think employers will realise if you can't get to where you're meant to be, it's no fault of yours.

I'll work from home this morning then get a train to where this afternoon's clinic is taking place. A shuttle bus is provided at the other end, which just leaves me with a very challenging walk uphill from the local station to get home at the end of the day. The pavements have all the heaped up snow that has been ploughed so the only place to walk is on the road.

Ah well, no doubt we will get used to it: this looks as if it will continue for some time, according to the long range forecast on Accuweather.

Have the best day you can, folks

Still dont know if i'm gonna be heading for work - still snowing like mad.
So am having a TADA 15 minute burst day - have started steam cleaning the kitchen. Degreasing all the nookes and crannies.
    Cooker done.
Starting Work surfaces (just taking a break after refilling the steamer).
Managed to get through to Head Office and my boss didnt make it to work either, but the people I am Housekeeper for may want me to go in:eek::eek::eek:.
So still slightly up in the air.

    TADA finished for today.
Gleaming kitchen, degreased, scrubbed and shiny.
Living room, hoovered, polished, glass washed, everything stripped and hoovered including suite and all nooks, crannies and corners. Cushion covers, washed, dried and replaced.
All cloths washed, and all washing upto date. :T
Contacted work and everything is fine. thank you Universe.

Is it hard to learn to ride a motocycle?

  • And to echo Fantasia - thank you Universe: clinic cancelled (and both of tomorrow's).

I know nothing about motorbikes, but a friend of mine did one of the mandatory courses and said his middle-aged brain took longer to get the hang of things than the youngsters on the course - and he felt quite vulnerable in traffic. But it was quite a buzz nevertheless. Good to push the envelope every now and then, maybe?

i passed my motorcycle test before i learnt to drive a car. Have done the CBT yet? I'd do that first, it will get you started and it is more one on one learning. Ask in your local motorcycle dealer about who to go with.
i then had lessons locally with a bike group. i can't remember how many i had, about 15 or so, and i passed first time.

Riding a bike, the coordination needed is differnet but not hard, left foot down for gears, right foot back break, left hand clutch and right hand throttle.

  • Me and !!!!!! did our CBT last year... he loved it, I didn't. It isn't hard, it's just the complete reverse of a car - so clutch and 1 brake with hands and gear changing and the other brake with your feet...

CBT lasts 2 years and once you pass, you can ride up to 125cc on L-Plates. The place we went loaned bikes and equipment, and including the day it cost about £90. You can't fail a CBT, they just ask you to come back another day if you're not quite up to it. There's a bit of talky stuff, about general safety etc, then some pratice time on the "playground" - slow speed stuff, circles, figures of 8, u-turns, emergency stops (at about 10mph!).

They do a bit more classroom briefing, and then out on the road. The CBT law says you have to be out for 2 hours.

There were 4 people in our group and we all passed. We were on the way home at 3pm, but they'll stay with you until 6pm if they need to (at the place we went). The idea is that they take you out on some little roads to get used to it - but if you already drive, you will know the rules of roundabouts and things, so that will be no problem. Next we went on a "proper" road, to overtake and things, then stopped for a cuppa at a little cafe, and pootled back through residential roads, to practice junctions and the other weirdnesses of the UK road system.

He went on and did his "proper test" and he had 3 one day lessons, and a practice test day. He passed both parts of the test first time, but I don't know if that is normal. (pt 1 is slow control in a playground, pt2 is a normal road drive).

I think a full day's tuition was £130, and the test practice day included the fees for both tests and the loan of the bike on the 2 test days as well.

    Hope that helps
