Yeah - I've got a halogen oven. TBH I just treat it as you would a very teeny oven. I pre-heat it for a couple of minutes and then cook as normal, although I find that it takes less time than a convential oven (about as fast as a fan-oven) and that I need to creep the tempertature on a recipe down by 10 degrees or so.
For instance a 2lb loaf cooks at 150 degrees for 30 minutes.
I find that silicon makes a softer crust but my usual flan and pie cases crisps up ok - especially if I sit them on the metal "plate" that the oven came with whilst sitting it on the lower of the metal stands. Quiche works best if I pre-heat the oven with the metal plate inside first so it gets a blast of heat radiating through its bottom too.
Best thing is how much money it has saved me - don't have to heat up the whole oven for our daily bread.
Don't have to batch cook - I know that sounds very anti-OS that recommends you fill the big oven full as you use it. But I find that baking little and often means we can have something we fancy - and it is FRESH. Sponge cakes IMHO should be eaten on the day they are cooked:D Get me - should go and join the SWRI right now!!!
Let us know how you get on.
BTW - spends for yesterday 0.47 on a tub of cottage cheese (Sunday night spinach lasagne) 0.99 on feta (quick pasta salad last night and greek salad on Monday) 0.49 on a ball of mozzarella for pizza tonight at 6pm sharp for the new series of Dr Who. JUst noticed - thats a lot of cheesy meals - but pizza chosen by DS2, lasagne by DS1 and pasta salad for speed :rotfl:
So thats the bank holiday catered forTotal spends £1.95.
Off to update my total, thentake DS1 to golf lesson with his grandad.
Be back to set up the new thread soon - DS2 has a new Pokemon thingie online yesterday so I didn't get the computer till late, late, late.

Just double up with a pie plate or cake tin or something metal.
BTW - I have finally perfected getting the "perfect bottom"on my home made pizza's. We like Pizza you can pick up by the slice and munch on - so soggy, gluey, doughy bottoms are a no-no.
I roll my pizza dough out to about 7mm thickness - we like our bottoms fairly crispy. Place on a piece of non-stick cooking parchment.
Heat the oven to it's highest temperature for 15 minutes with metal trays on the shelf so that they get really hot.
Put the pizza base on the parchement onto a wooden chopping board and quickly top with your tomato sauce and toppings. Then still on the board open the oven and slide the pizza onto one of the hot metal trays, parchment and all.
My oven goes to 220 and the pizzas take about 7 - 8 minutes each and they are stiff enough then to be cut with a knife or a pizza wheel and eaten by the slice.
Seriously - much nicer than flabby frozen ones and you get to choose your own toppings.
Mmmmmm I'm hungry now

Marru - Happy Birthday  Hope you have a lovely day today
Thank youI got child care voucher from BF for two weekends so that I can go to a course I have wanted to go to for a long time (he also got sun shades for my glasses) and his mum gave me a painting that she has painted herself that I admired in her place. She is so talented and the painting is just wonderful. So I am truly blessed
AND I've got a cake, I've got a cake...
