Just grabbing a quick cuppa before my student arrives - they are about 20 minutes away.
Budget is finalised for next year -and "By George I think she has done it" - I think I am finally at the stage where we can be a couple of quid ahead ever month.
Surely that is the tipping point reached???
Although there is still the Big Horse Debt to clear - there are no other lurking demons so I can throw any penny we save right on over there by electronic banking and start chipping away at it even quicker. Meaning that when the rooms are done and rented out (note I said WHEN and not IF:D) every penny of that can be snowballed onto the Big Horse Debt - and afterwards diverted into the pay down the mortgage fund:j
My Accountant friend tells me that I am so much more fortunate than most people - he has clients with massive differences between their income and expenditure (in a bad way) - so the fact that we are living within our means, paying off a "non-consumer debt" (no scary scary APR's) and have no other liabilites means that he considers me one of his more affluent friends
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I'm juggling pennies and he thinks we are affluent
I've had a great idea for the launch of the new thread - so I am thinking that when I get on tonight I will start a new one for us and close this ..........................
................. so let the gossip begin:p

I am an OU addict - I enjoy studying, reading , researching, learning, but I hate writing up.
Or to be more exact I hate reading what I have already written - so I make notes, shuffle them into a single essay and stick. What I end up submitting is what anyone else would use as a first draft:o
Now I am smart enough to know that if I have got this far with that 'method' I could have done better if I had re-worked that first writing, I just have to get over that hurdle.
I suspect it isn't just writing - if I can't do something first time, I don't seem prepared to work at it until I can do it. I have no idea where this mindset (if that is what it is) came from or how to change it.

MG, I had a friend who used to be an insurance man in the days when they went to houses to collect the money. He used to visit a brand new development with posh houses and high flying executives. He said that it never ceased to amaze him how many of them made excuses for not having cash to pay him and when invited in they were eating beans on toast or something for tea. Then he would head across to the council estates, be offered tea and biscuits, see the hubby arriving home and getting steak for tea and they never missed a payment. He said that the "poorest of people" were often the most affluent in all respects but mostly in life balance. I guess that saying is very true, asset rich, cash poor. You might feel that you are juggling pennies but I bet that you do have more available to you than all of these "rich" people. Plus you are aware of what you have and appreciate it.
Looking forward to an exciting new thread. Hope I dont miss it. Will you post the new link post on here pretty please? Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Crafty, you did define your frog yourself in the last paragraph - luckily this is one of the conditions of frog-eating. The frog is the task but you eat it in one go; this means that one ought to develop the discipline and persistence to stick with it till the task is completed to the necessary quality (what this is depends on how important the task is to where you wish to go). How to develop the discipline?
1) By action - set yourself as a task, first thing in the morning to read what you have written. I find that mindmapping it helps - you get a better idea of the structure of the text and the logic so it is easier to change it.
2) Develop a set of supporting frogs. One reason why I took long distance running on is that it teaches you patience. When you run far you can't run fast and have to pace yourself. Think about activities that you enjoy but they will develop patience.
3) Do you fidget all the time? Because I do. So have decided to get into meditation. Develop the ability to be entirely still for period of time.
Just some ideas.

My BIL is a partner in a big accountancy firm, he earns at least 250k a year and they have all the trappings that go with it, house, car etc.
My DH earns around 18k a year, we live in a small terrace, but i would not swap for the world. We have no debt and only a small mortgage.
DH leaves for work at 7:45am and he's home at 5:15pm, so we spend lots of family time together with DS. BIL is never home, works until 2-3am in the morning and the only time he sees his DD is at weekends (if not working).
I may not have the cash to splash, But my family and time together is worth all the money in the world to me, so in my eyes i'm rolling in it! :rotfl:0 -
