MG - sorry, have to be real quick - do you still have the nappies needing a home? Me line manager's girlfriend is pregnant & we've persuaded him that these would be perfect - I can pick them up over the weekend if that's OK (& if you still have them)

Better get back to work now - Crickett - you'll get used to this speed sneaking too :p

Nappies are now at the door waiting for you to pop in - kettle is on standby too.

Glad they are going to a good home.

We are in all weekend (except first thing tom as DS1 has a golf lesson with grandad)

Mary B I don't think I could do it professionally, Not that clever. But I will look at the links, Thank you, Making it into a business I don't know, I'm struggling to get the jewellery business viable.

Having made cakes myself I am not sure how they make it a viable business as me and my mum have spent HOURS making stuff from fondant icing. Mind you if you have all the moulds etc I assume it's quicker. Would you be making the cakes too? The lady that made our wedding cake buys the cake in!

Bitsy I would make the cake too, no point doing half a job :)

But to sell wouldn't I have to have a certificate or something for hygiene reasons?

Well done! But...do you think you might still consider some of the ideas from the meet? Counting the job as the short run?

You'd need to contact Environmental Health who would be likely to come an inspect your premises. I had to as a CM, but not sure what their criteria is if your operating as a business who's product is based around food.

I've really enjoyed making cakes in the past but you are best doing the icing etc on either marble worktop or stainless steel.

I love this ladies cakes, I bought my mum a couple of her Xmas cake books http://www.karendaviescakes.co.uk/default.asp

This is the lady who made our wedding cake, lovely designs, she made a Beetle car for my dad's 60th Birthday :Dhttp://www.flourpowercakes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=59

Our local cake decorating shop sells a madeira mix which makes great cakes for decorating and you couldn't make it cheaper from scratch.

I was doing it for fun not with the idea of setting up a business but there's plenty of business for cupcakes at the moment which don't take so long to decorate.

My main idea was to be able to do even fancier birthday cakes (even though they are 21 and 15 they still want a decorated cake and I've made a rod for my own back over the years as they now think I can do any elaborate cake they can think of) decorated cookies for them to give to their friends and eventually I will, God willing, make their wedding cakes. I make a couple of decorated Christmas cakes every year as there is always a good cause that needs cakes for a cake stall. One year the cake I made for the church Christmas bazaar cake stall got put in the raffle!! Was I proud!!

(It was actually the quickest cake I had ever decorated - I used golden icing sugar to make Royal Icing and just did rough peak icing all over, tied a big metallic gold ribbon round it and sprinkled it with gilded sugar almonds. I've done it again since then as a Golden Wedding cake and as a Pirate Treasure cake using chocolate coins for the top and it always gets oohs and aahs)
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
