    I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    MG

That brings up another of those sacred cows doesn't it.

To get what you want "You have to work hard" - so fully on board with that Protestant work ethic - and I'm not even Protestant!!!!

Think my new rule should be:

To get what you want "You have to work smart".

In the meantime I have just come in from an hours hard manual labour in the garden ...............:o Should have thought about that a hour ago:rotfl:

I'm definitely in with working smart - I remember that couple and the surfing and the stoves - didn't her dad come down to help? But they did it, and they did it beautifully.

    Time to work smart!

Just caught up - What great news Cheri, so pleased for you.

Have spent the day tidying the garden and washing the garden chairs - they are over 20 years old but after a clean they will be fine for the summer. The garden is looking great and my little vegetables are going great guns - really pleased.

MG I know what you mean - had half a lager last night and have had a headache all day!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

This stuff is inspiritational, and fantastic if people could all achieve it, and its good if people can aspire to it, but have been reading about this four hour working week stuff, I thought that work was meant to be about passion, unrealistic in this day and age unless we are very lucky, but if we were that lucky would 4 hours a week working be enough to spend doing something we were passionate about.
It wouldnt for me, if I love doing something then four hours is just a drop in the Ocean, or am I missing the point???

Bitsy - maybe you need to have a think about how you could change things to make them less prone to damage (particularly while you have small children to add into the equation), so when you DO have to replace things, you do so with something practical.

For example, in your bedroom, do you need to have a carpet, or do you have floorboards underneath? They don't even have to be nice. Mine, aren't, but I painted them, and they now have a distressed look :p. In the kitchen maybe ceramic, terracotta, stone or linoleum (the natural stuff) might be be better (if you need it to be warm, an underfloor heating mat isn't too expensive to install and run if set up properly) as they don't melt/scorch and most stuff wipes off (and when they do get marked, it adds 'character' :)). But remember, the good thing about carpet tiles is you can just take up the damaged ones and replace them (which is why, when you buy carpet tiles, its is always worth buying a few extra!)

How about when you're thinking about doing things in the house, you ask the Matrix for advice on the most practical solution, based on your lifestyle and preferences?

Can the Matrix come up with some solutions to a husband who doesn't take his outdoor shoes off ;) Sadly it's not just the kids I have to contend with, it's me and H too.
H mentioned laminate in our bedroom, can't use the floorboards are they are very attractive square boards circa 1978 so might perhaps look into that. We've made some poor choices with the colour of some of our flooring (quite pale carpet on stairs bought before we had kids)

I haven't read the 4 hour book but what I always found really soul destroying was when work was light you had to spin it out. If we'd been allowed to do 4 hours work in 4 hours and then make up for all the unpaid overtime we'd done over the years that would have been fine but there was always this fiction that there was plenty of work if you were just hungry enough to go and get it
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

There are jobs out there Maryb, just not always in your own field of expertise. Certainly not in mine anyway. Will work anywhere doing anything reasonable to keep the finances stable. Have just been made redundant, last day at work yesterday. Its a whole new chapter though, it has to be x

i really think this four hour working week thing, is more fantasy conjecture to get people to buy into it and spend time reading up on ways to achieve it, by all means buy the book, and if it works, great, but really its unrealistic, fantasy to make people feel inadequate about what they are alreay achieving.

I was just getting to the point where I was going to scream 'Work, smart, you people!' and read your next sentence. Have you seen Michael LeBoeuf, Working Smart?

Old but still very much kicking.
