I'm exhausted. It's been like an episode of Tom and Jerry in here this evening.
I've just spent half an hour chasing a mouse round my sitting room which the cat brought in through the cat flap, and while the chase was on, cat sat and laughed at me.:rotfl::rotfl:
The mouse was very athletic and climbed up behind a radiator. Its tail was hanging down and I pulled on it - that didn't work - it held on like grim death and I was terrified the tail would come away in my hand, it stretched like elastic (yuk).
I dislodged mousie using a long thin pole, it went under my sofa. Pulled sofa out, mouse moved with it, Trojan Horse style. Used long thin pole to swipe it out from under, it ended up in a corner, then I managed to chase it into the mouth of a glass vase, vase quickly stoppered with a tea towel and mouse got released outside.:T:T Locked the cat flap on the way back in to give mousie a fair chance - and to prevent cat from going out and catching another one.
The sitting room is in chaos and the cat is not my best friend at the minute!! She'll be using a litter tray indoors for a few days - same thing happened this time last year when the temp dropped down to baltic.
There are easier ways to get an aerobic workout - I'm sure by the end my heart rate wasn't far off the mouse's.:eek:
Cheaper than Shred, I guess. Good entertainment for the cat.

And I've never been beat in a fight in
my Life".
He also has acquired what i call colourful metaphors (not from me of course lol). And comedy genius is the word also. He bathes in his waterbowl, refusing the expensive bird bath OH got him at Xmas, and when he wants attention he throws seed all over the floor
Oh yes, the bathing in the water bowl. Where did you get the bath, I have never found one big enough. And he also goes through his seeds and fruit bowl throwing out what he doesnt want until he gets to what he wants. He then goes down and collects the bits that he threw out. He is hilarious if I give him a peanut and he is in a strop because he snatches it and flings it across the room. So funny. Loving the rhyme he does Also meant to say that i love his name. I had wanted to call mine Henry but exoh wouldnt let me because he thought we would offend the neighbour who was called Henry.tellmeitsfriday wrote: »The boyf would like a parrot. There's a beautiful white one with yellow feathers in its wings at the local pet shop. He's been there for about 9 months, and is £900!!!
I won't let him have it though, because I think he'd traumatise the cats... Also, I can't see how I could fit a cage the size it would deserve in my little flat
Love the parrot tales...
If your bf wants one I would say do a lot of research into the different parrots and then go to the annual parrot show in Stafford to see all the different birds to get a feel for them. Never buy one from a local pet store unless you can find out more about where it came from. Coco came from a place in Milton Keynes. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Lol I have visions of you running around the house like a looney now lol, so funny,Boiler pot £30.92/£10000 -
Yes, your vision is accurate Claire... I'm always terrified that the mouse might be pregnant and that if I don't catch it the house might get overrun!!
Oh the joys of cat ownership (it's debatable who owns who)

That is true...
my cats like to sit and watch us chase the ducks round the garden when they've escaped, they also like to play what's the biggest thing we can get through the cat flap...I think it was a toss up between the rabbit and the weasel.2020 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #20 £1495.03/£2760 OP0 -

Sounds like a Cockatoo. They can be quite difficult as they can scream A LOT. I would recommend an African Grey, easy to look after, loving and chatter really well. Mine lived with cats for the first 6 years and got on great with them. The other day I had been feeding Coco and I mustnt have closed the door properly because 2 hours later when I came down from my office I found Coco sitting on the kitchen table talking to the dog who was sitting on his bed. He had managed to open his door and fly into the kitchen to have a bit of a chat. I had heard him telling Moo to shut up when he was barking but that is normal although its usually from his cage.

Yep defo sounds like a sulphur crested cockatoo. And i'd agree do your research, you need a reliable breeder, one thats born and reared in GB, there's a lot of people illegally importing and selling cheaply. These birds are a lifetime commitment as they can last for 60/70 years.
Got the bird bath from acorn pet centre. And OH altered it, total waste of time lol. Parrot sat in the corner of cage when we tried to introduce it, fluffed his feathers and quivered.
We are continually having to alternate toys too because he tears everything to shreds, best thing we bought him was a coconut shell. He spends hours clanging it, mirror was a no-no because he kept trying to attack his reflection. So now I put staple free cardboard boxes in the bottom of his cage and he spends a lot of time down at the bottom of the cage playing hide and seek and tearing them up with his beak.
Keeping him in the cage is like Escape from Alcatraz. He can open the feeding entrances, even when we tighten up the nuts he swivels the other side with his beak and opens them and pops out.
I qite often come home from work and find him perched on the couch or curtain pole hurling obscenities at the dog.
Funny thing is when he bellows 'Scruffy sit, give me a paw'
The poor dog obeys lol.
Amazing pets if you have time and energy.
My bird tolerates me and is obsessed with OH, even though he was mine before I met OH.
And the entertainment and loyalty is endless.
Groatie Queen love your tale of cat and mouse. In stitches (with the parrot taking the michael as usual):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I was tied up many moons ago. All was well until I had what they thought was appendicitis and was whisked into hospital. Turned out it was an ectopic! Not what we were expecting at all.
However, I think that's rare - wouldn't want to put anyone off.0 -
Sorry everyone, link now removed, wasn't thinking there. Would have done it earlier but went out soon afterwards!
Love the animal stories too!0
