. For myself, I find that if the challenge is only to lose weight I don't do it; because I don't want it enough and don't plan it well. But if the challenge is soemthing else and the loss of weight is a condition for this to happen (like learn to snowboard) then it is more likely. Also the planning - what has to happen so that you lose weight? Bringing the weight loss down to sets of actions that you do everyday, once a week and once a month makes it very precise and takes your mind off losing weight (and of the pressure that goes with it).

Hope some of this makes sense.

What type of actions do you mean Firewalker? as I have a similar kind of thing, I am over weight, I should want to lose weight for health reasons but honestly can't be bothered, I keep thinking that something will click and it will happen but thus far nope. Any advice from anyone would be good!

Bitsy don't go away! This thread is one of two that I manage to just about keep up with, there were others but there is only so much time in the day, I found if I wasn't careful I would be spending my time reading about what everyone else was doing in their lives and not living my own! I read this just about every day but don't post as often as some because often I just don't feel I have anything all that interesting to add.

Not been a bad day here, didn't manage to do any of the work I thought I might start on (to get a head-start to the week, so to speak), but did manage to get the lawnmower going, and sharpen the blades on the garden shredder which has transformed it from a thing you had to force branches into to one that just sucks them in of its own accord. Very pleased with that and OH has declared me 'Dr Fixit'! and rushed off to mow the lawn with a big grin on his face! :rotfl:

    Boy it's a bit HStumble.gif here isn't it!

LOVE the smiley! Poor little chap! :rotfl::rotfl:
Anyway was mulling a few things over whilst in this positive mood and came to some conclusions.
The 100 day Challenges I can't stick to :o I need something more permament, life long IYSWIM. I am tired of sticking losing weight as one of my challenges and I wondered why I just couldn't get past whatever was holding me back. Marru lent me a lovely book yesterday which I started reading and made me realise how food is tied to my emotions. I don't comfort eat the way I used to which is all well and good BUT I still use and see food as a reward or a treat. Unless I change this perception things are never going to change.

Sounds good. What's the book called?
So that started me thinking about other things in my life, not big things, just little things so here is my aims list. I need to participate in my life more rather than being the queen of procrastination.

Me too. You sure you're a Bean and not a Pickle?!
    • Seek out and try some new recipes.
You got recipie books in that pile of books by the bed? If so, get them out. I'm going to try to set me a target of learning one new recipe a fortnight or something, which seems a realistic target and one I could comfortably keep up forever(ish) without being too arduous.
    • Start reading ALL the books beside my bed. I've got lots that I've wanted to read for a while (years) and still not knuckled down to do it :o So rather than watching TV in evening or if I have 15 mins during the day try reading a book.

And here is your new hangout! ;) I've got TONS of books to read (about 127 at last count) and I've set myself a target of reading 25 in a year. Sometimes I get through loads in a month, sometimes I get through less than the 2 book average required, but I got through the 25 last year and I was proud. :D
Ultimately this isn't a timed challenge. It's a work in progress which is why I think I've failed in other 100/50 challenges.

I think that's a really good idea: some things have to change in life forever, and it's a good think not to put too hard a 'time limit' on them, else the pressure stops you from doing what needs to be done.

Bitsy is right about the 'not setting a limit on things'. Sometimes in life for a change to be permanent, it needs to be gradually integrated into life, and lived with forever.

Here's what I need to do:
    • Change jobs (get a career). Am working on it, but boy is it taking time
    • Read 6(?) books pertaining to the above and mindmap them.
    • Eat less rubbish
    • Drink less rubbish
    • Exercise. At all, not just more. (Think those 3 might need a diary)
    • Practice music every day
    • Declutter all the stuff I don't need on Ebay
    • Tidy room and keep it that way
    • Write a diary every day (stepping stone to something bigger)
    • Do my massage homework (am a bit behind)
    • Do two pieces of writing
    • Learn a new recipe every 2 weeks
    • Learn how to do the other 2 things I don't know how to do for work experience.
And here are my organisational dreams, which I have meant to do for too long:
    • Upload all my CDs onto iTunes
    • Put all photos in photo albums and label them
    • Make the memory books I keep meaning to make
    • Learn to memorise a pack of cards
    Definite targets:
    • 2 pieces of writing need to be done tomorrow morning
    • Post item sold on Ebay tomorrow.
    • Massage homework is being checked in 2 weeks, so need to have done half of it by then (there's a lot). Half this week, then.
    • Read the books about work. 1 a week for next 6 weeks if poss.
    • Exercise. Hope to take up walking 3x a week. It's a start. :)
Right, prod my posterior if I don't seem to be getting on with any of that.

    Morning all.

Lovely day here, sunny but cold.

Cheri I think it is the exercise more than anything that I am struggling with in my challenges. I know I should do more but am dragging my heels. Did do some digging in the garden yesterday and have been briskly walking the dog everyday so small steps but I know that I want to do more but can't seem to push myself that bit extra.

On a positive and money saving note the free seeds that I planted on my window sill last weekend have started to come through so at least we will have lettuce and rocket so will also be able to say I am improving my diet my eating more greens. :rotfl:

    Morning All,
I'm guilty of only lurking recently but would hate to loose this thread and you lovely lot. It definately changed my way of thinking and coping.

Not much happening here at the moment, just plodding along. Got a mystery - had awful tummy and lower back pain for 24 hours now and have taken today off sick - of to doctor later. Don't feel really ill just odd!

    Will catch up later.

    Just so we're clear...! :D

I don't tend to post around here at the weekends because I am catching up with everything I haven't got time or energy to do during the week. The pace has slowed down... thank goodness! It means I am up to date in my reading!! :o

Had an incredibly busy weekend, spring cleaning and decluttering. Even my carpet is shining! Hubby is off work this week and he is painting and getting estate agents around and stuff like that so we can put the house on the market and start the process of moving house. Lots of stress coming to Chez Rickett methinks!

Have a great day all - it's bright and sunny, but cold, and i have lots of meetings to deal with today! Take care one and all. Positive vibes to the Matrix and everyone.

Lovely to see so many of you posting. Put a big :D on my face.

Well you know how those surveys when you have to tick the box in which your age bracket is in........I've just gone up another bracket :rotfl::rotfl:
But it got me thinking.......would I really want to be 21 again? OK I enjoyed my 20's, was childfree, only my H as my significant responsiblity etc BUT I wasn't half as confident as I am now. Certainly not as positive thinking (thanks to you lovely lot) and not willing to take a risk and try new things. So I might be a year older but I am happy with my lot and am in the lucky position of not wanted to change the most important parts of my life. Am very blessed and having seen more of the news about Japan this hits home more and more.

Inapickle - the books is called Diets Don't Work and it's from the 80's. Very much along the lines of Beyond Chocolate but as Marru says it's more about the science as to why diets don't work. No cookery books by the bed, I have a 3 inch thick on about the Bronte Family that I have been wanted to read for YEARS! and a few others too so will have to pick one and make a start today :D

Oops late for DD pre school catch up later!!!!!

    Delurking with some random thoughts.

First – it’s been a looong winter and some of us are desperate for spring (OK I know the snowdrops and crocuses are out, but we had snow at the weekend)

Second – last year we all got caught up in MG’s journey and the development of her business. That encouraged other business starters (and created the other site).

However her mother’s illness, weather/travel problems and the hassle over the school meant she had to rethink her plans, fortunately early enough that she hadn’t affected the ‘MG brand’.

So everything got put on hold – then she got rushed to hospital. Fortunately some people have stuck around and kept the thread ticking over and thanks to them the rest of us can have another go at climbing back on the journey.

And when MG comes back she will find us all here 'still truckin'

Thanks to Bitsy – Happy Birthday - for giving us a kick up the bahookie and to Pickle for posting her plan.

    Off to write mine:p

    Good Morning.

Decided upstairs was to be cleaned today, so have done the master bedroom, ds1 helped me change the bed :) windowsills and mantle-piece polished by ds2 ( school bus broke down, hence why he is not in school.) just need to hoover up there now.

Both boys have cleaned their rooms, not sure how good yet, haven't looked. If they are not up to standard I will be making them do it again.

load of washing on the line, as it's sunny here, cold, but hoping it will dry the clothes. Another load in the machine.

Still loads to do to get the house up to spec, but at least it's not looking like a tip anymore :) I can do bits at a time now.

Ds1 got his first day in talk training today, he decided to leave school, as the teachers wern't getting to the lessons.

just waiting for washing machine to finish, tp put next load out, then I have to meet mum to go shopping, need to get ingredients for ds2's cooking tomorrow.

Happy birthday Bitsy, hope you have a great day :)
