  • Wow lots going on!

Bitsy I also love Abakhan for fabrics, been going there almost 30 years  but don't get there often any more. They do have a fantastic range of stuff at good prices and they do sell online although I've never tried that. The website is herehttp://www.abakhan.co.uk/index.html
I'm not sure where you are but if you do pass that way it's well worth going in as they have a whole shed full of remnants you can rummage about in (sold by weight).

If you were anywhere near me there's also a lovely fabric shop not far from here which I recently discovered as well.

Claire hope the doggie gets sorted. If you can stand it, could you put some rubber gloves on and bathe his bum with warm salty water, that may help. Or dilute TCP. (Could DS do it?)

Fantasia, well done on making the decision and don't give up!

I'm sure there was someone else I wanted to respond to but I've forgotten now :rotfl:

Well, challenges... There's one thing I really need to sort out for myself but I've no idea how. My bad habit, which I've had for about 35 years (don't laugh now), is grinding my teeth! I really need to stop doing it, it annoys the heck out of me, it's wearing my teeth down too, but as soon as I stop actually thinking that I must not do it I find I am doing it again. I'm talking the very next second that I think about something else. I even do it sort of instead of humming or whistling, I grind my teeth to the rhythm of music in my head IYSWIM. OK now I've admitted it, I am officially mad :rotfl:
Anyway once you've stopped laughing, any suggestions? I have considered trying hypnotherapy but have no experience of this.

Troglodyte We can't go near him, he is a lovely friendly dog but when it comes to anything like that cutting his fur etc he snaps :( I think after all the years suffering with his ears he is very wary of anything like that. He hasn't actually bitten any of us but he growls and the teeth come out and he snaps, so we leave him :(

Clare, I really hope that the dog is ok. Having shared my life with dogs I know how hard it is to see them needing help but not sure what to do for the best when they are old. It could be something as simple as an abcess (sounds like it) that could be dealt with under sedation. Try not to worry too much but be prepared to make any decisions that need making. I will be thinking of you all.

Fantasia, thats a great idea about a fantasy fund. I know somebody who worked out how many packets of cigarettes equated to a monthly payment on their dream car. Knowing that was enough to stop them smoking almost immediately and they bought their car. 10 years and two cars later they still dont smoke. Might be worth a try. For example have you ever wanted to go on a really big holiday or wanted a sofa that you couldnt justify spending the money on?
Use the demotivator tool to see how much per year you spend and equate that to your fantasy.

The tablets are called Champix, I've tried them to no avail. Have seen the smoking cessation officer at local doc's, thats where i got the patches and lozenges etc.

Woohoo, this place is energised again (beam me up Scotty) lol.
Loving the positivity girls (and guys) keep it coming.
But its also fine if people need to sound off too.

Nail biting is the one thing I have managed to quit (about 5 years ago). They were bitten down to the quick and also the skin around them (not pretty and painful too).

I'm sending everybody lots of [positive energy and thank you all sooooooooo much for putting the thread back on track. We are fizzing and buzzing and soon it will be all glittery and sparkly again.
    You gotta love it x

p.s. Clootiesmum, I can nag for Scotland according to OH. If it helps lol

Oooh. loving the idea of Fantasia's fantasy fund. Will have to weed out a container and see where it leads.

    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • I gave up smoking nearly 5 years ago and did it by gradually giving up the habit ones first, after meals, first thing in morning, with cup of tea at breaktime etc, I weaned myself from 20 a day to 6 and then picked a date to give up. I chose the bribe that I wanted to save for I then saved what I would have spent on the ciggies and 2 years ago OH and I went on a trip of a lifetime to Peru. I had lots of encouragement from OH too as he was a non smoker :)

No one should laugh Troglodyte, teethgriding is actually quite commom - 1 in 10 people do it. And its actually a medical condition called Bruxism.

    http://www.bruxism.org.uk/

Loads of helpful stuff in here and they even have a teeth-grinding forum (that bit did make me smile)>
But as a fellow tooth grinder (only when I'm sleeping though & anxious). I totally empathise.
