I've just read that Pete Postlethwaite's died - I loved him - he ws a fantastic actor & seemed a genuine person too. Such a shame

And I couldn't watch BBC 1 last night - in fact, I couldn't watch anything as there was a power cut from 8.30 to 11. Had to go & dig out the blackout box to get the wind up radio to listen to.

Had a great night with that & a book though....

Very sad, an amazing actor - so versatile and a very expressive face. Loved him and Thora Hird in an adaptation of a Deric Longdon book (wish I could think what it was called!!!) and Brassed Off but there are many more examples of his work.:)

  • Deric Longden is a favourite author of mine too. Peter Postlethwaite starred in his second TV drama (from wikipedia):

    • Diana's Story (1989) concerned life with his rapidly deteriorating wife, who was suffering from an illness that doctors could not understand. This book became a TV production in 1993 called Wide-eyed and Legless starring Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent and Thora Hird. In America this was shown under the title The Wedding Gift.
Lost For Words (1991) continued the story of Deric's life, telling of life with his eccentric mother, as she gradually loses her memory. This was also made into a TV movie of the same title with Thora Hird, but this time with Pete Postlethwaite in the main role, Deric Longden himself appears as a voice on an answerphone.

I too loved Brassed Off. You could always be sure that if Peter Postlethwaite played a part in something, that it would be worth watching. RIP Peter.

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

    Happy new year everybody.
Been offline since Friday, pc crashed, took it to be fixed, worked for a bit and then crashed again (grrrrrrrrr). Using DSS's old Windows Xp atm, but at least its letting me online lol. I miss Vista but heyho, I'm grateful for this working tower.
Keeping Motivated am sure MG will deal shortly, but if I were you, think I'd be concerned too. Chin up and fingers X'd you are sorted shortly.

Pete Postlethwaite was a lovely man. Because of connections my sister http://www.loisnaylor.com/home.html was able to play Gloria in the theatre based version of Brassed Off, a very talented actress and trumpet player so the part was tailor made.
She is amazing, now a mother of 2 and still treading the boards.
