Christmas pressie list .... Your thoughts!

I do a list for my partner and tell him to choose a few items off it - that way I still get a bit of a surprise and don't end up with useless presents which he has brought me in the past.
I wouldn't dream of giving a list to anyone else - although it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if they came across my amazon wishlistI would also be annoyed and even a little offended if anyone apart from my partner presented me with a list as first of all it would annoy me that they assumed I was getting them a gift, secondly - what if I had already chosen/brought/made something for them and lastly it suggests that they thought past gifts I had given them/I was likely to choose rubbish presents!
When I buy someone a present I choose it carefully and like to get something different or unusual that they mighr not have thought of themselves but they will really love, or something frivilous (not neccesarally expensive) that they would never buy themselves. For me, gifts aren't about ticking things off someone else's shopping list!
Also, if I really couldn't think of something to get someone I would rather not get them a gift then get them a gift for the sake of it - like a bath gift set. If someone buys me a gift set it just makes me think "you obviously don't know me well enough to know what I'd like so I'd rather you didn't buy me anything" - I don't mean this to sound rude but I hate commercialised, overpriced gifts designed for the sake of giving and my house is too small to be cluttered with things like that and I'd hate for someone to waste their money just for the sake of it.0 -
Has actually anyone on here suggested that they do present other people expectantly with their lists?
I don't think I know anyone who would do such a thing..0 -
I really don't want or need anything so I really struggle when /if I am asked for suggestions. My list would be very short. I told my sister "toiletires" when she asked as I can either use them or give them to a charity fair or to the local unit for the homeless. I managed to come up with ideas for my daughter. At my age though I am trying to get rid of stuff not acquire more. I am not very good at finding gifts for others, though it is lovely when they find something nice for me as a surprise. I'm just not a "gift" person.0

My OH and I make lists for each other (otherwise I probably would get some weird and wonderful gifts!) We then wait till the LO's gifts are bought then work out a budget for each other and buy from the lists.
We are both well aware that we wont get everything thats on the list but at least its still a surprise.
I would ever dream of giving anyone else a list though.0 -
We make lists (my parents, me and oh, my 2 bros and their wives and kids) but they are only sent when asked for. It makes it so much easier than having to think of what to buy for people.0

The only person I give a written list to is my Mum and have done since the writing to Santa days! I decided a couple of years ago that lists were not right and I got such a bollocking for not doing one from her that I gave in however, my list is now half as long as it ever used to be because she buys EVERYTHING on it. Except the Pony I once asked for;)
I find lists offensive and quite rude if they are not from children (and I don't think there is really an age limit for a child to give a list to an parent). I hate wedding lists, engagement pressie lists and babyshower lists as it is very presumptious - my gifts are always well thought out and hopefully matched to the person so if you don't like my gift then you are ungrateful and just tell me becasue I won't bother in the future:D
If a friend/family member gave me a christmas list unprompted - they would not get a gift - simples:)0 -
