Advice on a shocking o2

I took a new contract in August for two years, paying £35 per month. Have you any feedback or advice?
Remember the contract is for airtime only. (Used to be called an Airtime Agreement)
The handset is seperate to this, and should be repaired/replaced in a timely fashion if required. If its not your phone at fault though, ask them for it back?
As for the apps, don't worry, you can download them all again for free.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Not sure what the problem here is to be honest, you said yourself that you've been having ongoing issues with your iPhone, there's only so many troubleshooting steps you can go through on the phone and if you've really been having issues with your phone and iTunes (I don't think any of the major networks support iTunes) then it sounds like the problem would be best dealt with by Apple, either by sending your phone off to them or by contacting them.
Mobile phone shops are retail stores, their not repair centres, if you go into one, tell them your phone's faulty, you've been having ongoing issues and none of the troubleshooting steps you've been given have helped then there's not much they're going to be able to do so sending the phone off to a repair centre does seem like a logical step.
It's your responsibility to sure you've got a good working backup of any important information on the phone, you can't blame O2 for you not having that and you can't blame O2 or Apple for wiping and reinstalling the software on your phone without preserving your contacts.
Maybe you bought the iPhone so you could use email on the go, but your contract with O2 is for airtime, not the ability to send and receive email.
The issues with the SIM card in your new phone does sound rather unusual, the only thing I can think of is that you were somehow given a blank or the wrong SIM card instead of your own when you were in the store, there should no way for a mobile number to suddenly become unassociated with a SIM card unless the number has been swapped over onto a new SIM card or maybe the SIM card's been damaged in some way.0 -

I might be a bit thick regarding using this phone but can you not back up data via usb mass storage mode if ITunes is playing up .
I have all my notan iphone data copied off the sd cards as a backup .

Having had an iPhone since the release of 3G, I would say I know what I'm doing. The contacts backed up have the numbers missing, the names are there but the numbers are missing.
With regard to apps, this backup has apps but with all different names, i.e: Alarm Clock, Alarm Clock 4432, Alarm Clock 12, Alarm Clock 4 etc etc.
The calendars or notes are just grey and will not synch at all.
I'm afraid you are convincing me that you don't know what you are doing technically.
On a general point, there was quite an interesting article about this sort of situation (but concerning data roaming) in The Register.0
