Oh dear. Our first family do was a horror, bit my parents regularly. He was great with me though, wouldn't let my parents tell me off in his earshot :D

Was that not instinctive defence of 'babies,' if you'll pardon the expression? Excusable if it was.

Our little cat was a great Mum to her kittens. She also extended her services to our youngest child, but not to the older one who was about ten when cat arrived in our household. She was seen as an adult, so able to fend for herself.

However, when DD2 was in the garden on her own, if anyone came through the back gate, hidden from view, little cat would fly down there growling, and then stand across the path, back arched, ready to attack.

Scared the hell out of me a few times! :rotfl:

We had a cat like this, she was a brilliant mum herself and any baby fascinated her and made her go all broody.
We have a great photo of her snuggled up on the rug with our newborn grand-daughter who she duly claimed as soon as she set eyes on her.
She's all curled up round my grand-daughter with her paws over her but not before she'd given the poor childs head a good licking.
Till the day she died (when my grand-daughter was just over two) that old cat followed her round like she was her mummy,it was lovely to watch.

Our dogs and cats are getting to know a baby for the first time. Its incredible to watch them pander to the baby's every whim, furnishing the baby with their own toys (hmmmm, hygenic!) and positively encouraging the baby to pull tails/hair/wallop them. Its as if the baby is god to them.

It's lovely to see is'nt it.
As for hygene I would'nt worry too much.
We were brought up with loads of animals as were my children and grand-children.
We're all and always have been very healthy.
