This site (MSE) is the result of a very clever young man (Martin, of course) and yet he appears on this show, obviously for a wage. Don't blame him at all for that, but I truly wonder if he believes the doom & gloom that the 'Tonite with TM' portrays - I doubt it somehow.

I just say to you all, take this program as 'Entertainment'. don't lose sleep over the dubious 'facts' that come to light, You will be happier in your supposed ignorance.

Don't underestimate Martin. He is very media savvy.

Yes, remain ignorant consumers. Just what this site is all about. Let the Banks and Corporations rip you off. At least you will be happy not knowing they are doing it!

Rizla is right to be condemning of the Trevor McDonald scaremongering. For some reason, this celebrity seems to somehow give credibility to consumer-scaremongering, just because he used to read the news and therefore appear impartial. He will sell himself for any panic subject if it gets him a telly job.
Remember the millenium? Nothing happened when the clocks turned to midnight on 1st January 2000 did it Trevor? No.
Nearly 4 years ago he had a program showing people "in the know" selling their houses to rent a while because house prices were gonna C-R-A-S-H the following spring. What happened Trevor? Nothing? Price growth slowed, thats all. Slowed. Hardly worth a telly program. As usual.

Britain's answer to Kent Brockman. But this cartoon character's for real.....

    It'll never happen here!

    Why?

You just have to read Ms Saraya Beg's Debt Diary...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6047542.stm

"Granted, my finances were stretched and I was investing in buy-to-let property. But where else are you supposed to invest these days? Personal pensions, what with mis-selling scandals? "
I remember thinking when I first read this "well 6 months expenses in the bank would have been a better idea than assuming 6 weeks out of (freelance!) work over the giving birth period".

It's a bit scary how many people are working on the assumption that their pay will continue to out-perform their expenses.

ps thanks for the New Paradigm reminder (.."as seen on the Internet"..)

Well it seemed 'stating the patently obvious' was needed.

So the Property Market is a Minority Issue Is it?

No but the first time buyer market is, and that was the primary area of discussion.

Er. Never said it was WRONG. Just exagerated beyond belief.

It was a warning, perhaps a little exagerated - i'll give you that. But how many years of exagerated "profit and lifestyle" property !!!!!! shows have we had? This was just an opposing view!

This is actually a very good point.

We have approximately 10,000 telly hours each year devoted to reckless property speculation and 30 minutes giving an opposing view and suddenly all of the homeowners on here are up in arms and screaming "blasphemy!".

Get a grip homeowners and keep enjoying your unearned equity...

Seems to me the leather sofa is the innocent victim in all of this - it didn't ask to get dragged into it!!!!

As always with these programmes you end up concentrating on the specifics and not the underlying trend they represent. Were these 3 examples typical?????? I don't know.

Rewrite the headline re the family and you come up with 'family with 4 kids struggling to make ends meet' - hardly a surprise is it? I struggled to make ends meet with 2 so maybe the family should have thought about THAT rather than whether to take out an 80k mortgage (which is hardly excessive). TBH, I felt that if the debt free wannabee board got hold of their outgoings they could make a big difference, but I don't know of any family with 4 kids who don't struggle.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
