I think its just a case of some stores being more on the ball than others!!

Would agree with this, where I worked I would phone HO (not Tesco) and report something scanning incorrectly (if the manager was unable to correct it on our system) and they would host it to our store but not necessarily check other stores. So until they realised that many stores were having the same problem only inividual stores that noticed the price error would be corrected.
  • Another load of bunkem...hauled off upstairs for a chat.....about what precisely??

Like any other employer, there is employment law that must be followed and dismissal after a "chat" or 5 simply isnt legal let alone realistic. Disciplinary procedures are there for a reason.

As for the most young lads and ladies dont last 6 months, i'd love to see the figures supporting this....
The main challenge with Tesco is that for some reason the British public seem to perceive Tesco as this wonderful organisation that is desperately battling to reduce prices on their shopping. Sadly the reality is very different, they used to be a good employer but nowadays they treat their staff very badly. Part of the reason they are the most profitable UK supermarket chain is the fact that they have really screwed down on the staff, they know absolutely every legal loophole and use them up to the hilt

They only get away with bullying people because they mainly employ part-time female staff. A lot of customers are really surprised when they hear of some of their practices. This isn't the place for me to list all the battles that my wife has had with them during the three years she has worked for them, but one practice that I asked her to speak to her union representative about was the fact that whenever you have sickness, even when it is supported by a doctor's sick note, you receive a warning for it. Obviously this starts with the legal requirement of a verbal warning, then written. The union rep confirmed that there is nothing the union can do about it. It isn't very long before you're at the "final written warning" stage

The policies on coupon use, for example, are all communicated to staff. If you are seen to be regularly breaching the store rules you will be hauled off upstairs for a chat, which will then be escalated to a disciplinary hearing if considered appropriate

I could also waffle on for hours about Tesco's abuse of the TUPE laws when they closed our Wincanton/Tesco warehouse down and merged it with a Tesco warehouse, but refused to let the employees keep their Wincanton contracts, despite TUPE law saying they must. As this isn't the place to do it, I won't

My apologies for taking the thread off track
Thanks to all who post constructively.
