  • Is it Android market place is available in this. If not can we install.

Googles Android marketplace will not be on this as its not 3G. Google will not allow their marketplace on a device that is not 3G enabled.

    Advent Vega???

thats if they can get one, as they sold out within 2 hours this morning - which does make you wonder how many did they actually have in the first place in this shipment, although they are saying they will have more for next week

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

For the price its a cracking deal, no wonder it sold out.

    totally agree,

the geek in me is screaming for me to buy one, the more logical side is asking me why do i actually need one and so far i havent come up with an answer worth £250 to actually buy one

There's a fair rationale behind MsFoxy's approach, ie to buy a cheaper clone now for 130 and cut your teeth on that.

Undoubtedly, in 6 months time, the market will be awash with better alternatives for similar money.

(oh, and the Ipad2 will be out with a camera ;) predictable!)

Personally I'm waiting for 3.0 to come out, which according to the rumours will be a lot better suited for the tablet and may have the market enabled for wifi only devices.

Already been announced, except its being called 2.3 rather than 3.0. Will be released in a week or two.

I need to buy a tablet for someone at work who wants one. He's normally a bit of a technophobe but he has seen other people use them and he wants one to view Word and PDF documents in meetings rather than take a pile of papers with him. Any recommendations? I'd rather wait for a few more to be released, perhaps Windows based ones, but I fear he wants one sooner than that. I don't really want to get an ipad but I worry the Samsung's screen is a bit small for viewing docs. I don't really know how good any of them are for viewing documents as everything seems to revolve around internet/video/facebook these days.

He already has an Android phone and a Windows PC, so is familiar with both OSs.

The Archos 101 looks like a possible contender. Android with larger screen than the Samsung and suposedly a better price.
  • the ZT 180 is a nice unit

lets not kid ourselves, its 150 quid worth of tablet

it runs Android 2.1 and you can install Market place

a few android 2.2 ( froyo ) are beginning to arrive now, most seem to be running with ARM cortex a8 ( which is what the TAB & ARCHOS is based on ), now these are about 175 quid, alot less than the TAB, whilst based on the same setup, they will not get the same support ( upgrades in android etc etc )

imho, you might aswell go for a froyo based system, then you have full flash ( 10.1 ) , if you search you will find them for 175 quid

I keep looking at these touch devices and wonder whether its more a triumph of marketing over practicality.

I have my Toshiba lappy here which runs Ubuntu linux which is perfect.

I also have my mob tel which is a pretty basic one on a PAYG deal.

What would be really useful for me would be something thats easily portable, that can be a phone and also has a keyboard and screen which makes it at least reasonably useful as a pc for using wifi and other connectivity.

If it ran ubuntu linux or simialr as an OS that would be a bonus and if i didnt have to pay a fortune on a mobtel contract then that would be even better.

I suspect im asking too much?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
