  • It looks like those files you couldn't find have already been dealt with by Norton as they're not running now and DrWeb didn't detect them.

    How's the machine running?

Can you access your registry editor now? (Start > Run and type regedit)
  • machine seems to be good running alot faster now. I can now access the registry editor but dont know why i want to ( not a whizz as you probably already guessed )
Still getting the windows photogallery message though do not no what that is but i clicked on somthing earlier and it done the same so im guessing i need a cd that either i dont have or dont know what it is.
Do i need to hide the files i unhid earlier in the process so I dont accidently delete something?
Do I need to reinstall Nortons?
what about the programmes that I downloaded with your links do I keep them or uninstall them?
Sorry for the questions but I have not got a clue whaere I go from here.

    Yep, see below.
Do I need to reinstall Nortons?
As it happens, there's absolutely no sign of Norton in your log to be honest. If you still have an up to date license for the program then yes, reinstall it. If not, have a look at the tutorial I've linked to down below. You'll find both free and paid for anti-virus recommendations there.
what about the programmes that I downloaded with your links do I keep them or uninstall them?
I'd keep DrWeb and AVG Anti-Spyware. Both are good security programs. Anything else you can delete.

With regards the photogallery prompt, can you post the exact message you get so that folk here can help you further. Malware is my thing and I'm sticking to it. :D

Everything appears to be in order so I guess we can wrap things up for the time being.

  • Here is what happens on start up regarding the photogallery.

in a box in the midle of the screen I get this,

Please wait while windows configures photogallery.

I press cancel and it does this 3 times before going away altogether.

if I let it run it then gives me this message

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not availible.
Insert the 'PhotoGallery' disk and click OK.

When I press ok it then stops responding and if I press cancel i get,

Error 1706.No valid source could be found for the product PhotoGallery. The Windows Installer cannot continue.

so I have to press ok then it goes through the system again unless i press the cancel button 3 times as above.

As for the rest of Thank you very much I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this and I am now going try and learn how to do some of this stuff that you have shown me :T

it may be under "Start" then "All Programs" then the bit for that program normally has an uninstall

or else you use windows explorer to navigate to My Programs then look for the directory where it is installed and see if there is an uninstall file
