yes and already the 1st error message is gone ( well from start up anyway ) and i have seen some things in this process that if i had stumbled across myself i would probably flung the laptop in the bin. It is now running alot faster than it was and I'm sure I have still got lots of things to fix

How long has this taken you so far BB?

all in about 4 hours most of the time taken though is some of the downloads scanning for errors 1 of which was over 1 1/2 hours the other was just over an hour so you dont have to sit infront of your PC while it is getting fixed.

Probably been quicker just formatting the thing to be honest.

then another 8 hours to back up your documents ,pictures ,favourites,emails, address books and so on, then reload windows, do the updates, reinistall all the programs you put on since you started......do the updates for them then reload what you backed up above

Dependant on the amount of data he has on the drive he wants to keep. If he only has a few gig, one DVD ISO would do it.

If I got a second hand pc/laptop, I'd format it.
