Loss of ITV1 ITV2 C4 Freeview signal

Just recently noted our freeview signal for ITV1, ITV2, Channel4 and a few others has dropped to the point we dont get any signal

All other channels on Freeview work fine

We live in West London (TW5) postcode

Checked all our tvs in the house and all have the same problem ie cant get ITV / C4 on Freeview

Ive checked the Freeview / Digital TV Engineer works site and there are none planned for our area which picks up the Crystal Palance transmitter signal

Does anyone have any clue whats going on since they were all working fine a couple weeks ago?

Yes your aerial/cabling is on its way out, or already there.

Digital TV is not like analogue you do not get a very slow degradation, you get:

    Good - (intermittent) - Gone

You may miss out the small intermittent stage completely.

Exactly the same has happened to us, yesterday, so I don't think both our aerials/cablings are on its way!! We live in Guildford, we are not sure if we use Guildford or Crystal Palace, which are the closest.

If you find a way of fixing this, please let us know!!

Why don't you? There is certainly nothing wrong with the transmitter, the only works this week affected analogue BBC1

OP, I suggest you check with your neighbours, If they don't have the same Freeview issue, then it can't be the transmitter, it has to be your aerial or cabling (as it's a common issue across all your TV's).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I've recently installed a third tv in the bedroom, I have very poor signal on the chanels you mention as well as channel 5, but only on the new third tv, downstairs lounge and kitchen tv is perfect on all chanels.
All tv's are connected to same outside roof ariel. I'm also looking for a solution and curious why only one tv is affected.

I will be very glad when the switch over happens here next year, fed up of losing it when it's windy, and the music channel band has got worse and worse and we don't get them at all now. And don't get me started on the poor signal upstairs!

All TVs should be distributed from exactly the same point so all are getting the same % of available signal, once you are sure this is the case then its simply a matter of checking cable and connectors.

Just to be clear there is NO issue with any transmitters in the south east this week on the digital channels.

At this moment the channels are back but with poor reception, I'm not sure what's going on. I just think it's too much of a coincidence that wookie66 and us both lost the same channels, exactly the same day, using the same transmitter...

I'm not too bothered as I'm moving in 2 weeks and getting Virgin in my new house, so this won't be a problem anymore...

Except as you stated you may not be using the same transmitter, and even if you do both use Crystal palace it serves over 10 Million people, and they are not suffering the same issue, I have tested the signal from there over 20 times since Wednesday and all is OK and there has been NO planned or unplanned outages.

So 2 people out of 10,000,000 having a problem with their aerial is not really that much of a coincidence and is not only the logical answer, it is the only answer.

Good luck with the move, hope it goes smoothly.
  • There is definately a problem with the transmitter. I have the exact same problem in Woking (pointed to the Guildford transmitter).

The channels disappeared all together late last week, now they are back but with hardly any signal strength. Seems to be anything on C44 (Mux 2) is affected.

Luckily I have other sources (Freesat) for these channels and other Freeview channels are unaffected and have perfect signal strength.
