Scam letter?

Hi everyone,

I hope this is an ok place to post this. I can't seem to find anywhere else!

I just got a letter through the post, with our address on but another name. No return address so i've opened it to see if it was important.
It is a letter saying this persons Littlewoods account is being transfered by Shop Direct Finance Company Limited to MKDP LLP on the 4th October 2010. That date has obviously gone and it's even dated the 15th November.
Then it says MKDP LLP have appointed HL solicitors (HL) as their servicing agent to manage the account.
Then it goes on to say the account owes £196.58 and HL should recieve all payments. Then it gives an address, a phone number and a website www.payhl.co.uk to pay this debt.

My partner has lived here since 2006, I have lived here since 2007 and we have never had a letter like this before and have never used littlewoods.

I am thinking it's a scam and I should bin the letter. There is no way I am going to call them. I would email them if I could find an email which I can't.

I just don't want to bin it and risk having some balifs coming round or something.

Does anyone know if it is a legitimate letter and company? or if I should do something about it?

Thanks!

Bin it. Its not your debt, in fact it wasn't even your letter, so you have nothing to worry about.
If you get anymore do the same. If you get one with a return address you can mark it "Not at this address" and return it.
Don't worry about credit files and "blacklisting". You won't suffer by being at that address. People are "blacklisted" not houses.
Bailiffs won't show up at the door. Even if a representative of the debt collection agency appears, just say that XXXX doesn't live there and tell them to go away.

    sofababe is spot on:
Not your debt = Not your problem.

File it under "B" along with the rest of the garbage and forget about it.
  • Thank you :)!!
  • I got the same letter today for £121.19 from MKRR it is addressed to me but I have never bought anything from a catalogue, I don't know what to do as I am not going to ring the number because I googled the number and it came up to be a telepest number. Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thanks.

Its probably just a phising enquiry and they are probably looking for another person called d0ry.
Probably worth checking your credit files to see that they haven't put anything adverse on there, or anything relating to this debt. If they haven't then I would just ignore the letter.
If they have put anything on your credit file then you would need to respond with the prove it letter to ask them for proof you owe the money.

  • From rayreceaved letter fromabove listed company for £709 from mkdp llp
  • Depts over six years old are not inforceable in law they can not take you court
  • I got home to a letter much the same as above. It is correctly addressed and named. What scared me though is I had a Littlewoods account which I've just cleared and closed. I first reaction was to transfer money from my bank account but thankfully I couldn't figure out how to do it!! I decided then to google it as I found it strange that the company doesn't actually give you it's full name. Thank fork I did as I found this post. Going to ring Littlewoods just to confirm.
  • Just off the phone to a lovely fella @ Littlewoods. Checked my account and he could see that I had paid off balance. He double checked and assured me that definitely no outstanding money owed, in fact I'm £150 in credit with them :j
He gave me a number to ring to report what has happened as they are viewing it as a type of identity fraud. It makes me angry that scams like this happen! I only googled it as an after thought, I'm sure there are other people out there who would go to pay it without checking in to it first.

I have had a letter from these this morning, or at least a letter to my address and with an ever so slightly similar name to mine as the addressee. (Doesn't that word look strange when you write it down:))

    Anyway this is them: http://mkdp.co.uk/pages/contact.asp

I'm not going to contact them, they'd only start asking me who I was and that's of no relevance - I tried that route once before when a daft phishing letter arrived.

I'm just going to bung it back into the letter box with 'return to sender not known at this address' written on it - luckily there was a return address on the reverse of the envelope.

I will do the same with anything else they send to my address.
