Scam letter?

  • Hi all it seem funny to me that no one has questioned the role of HL solicitors in this. A search of the forum will show that they are a rent a threat group of solicitors who will write an official looking letter for anyone for a few pounds. Their name normally comes up when CrapQuest are involved. Looks like a scam to me (Wish there was a smilie for a bad smell :rotfl:)

I will watch this thread with interest.

    Hi Altairst

If there has been a period of 6years where you didn't pay anything or write to admit that you owe the money and there is no CCJ then the debt becomes statute barred. After that nothing will make it un-statute barred, you could phone them up, admit the debt etc, even if you paid them some money towards it would still be statute barred and you could not be made to pay more.

I think in your case I would either just ignore the letter or send the this isn't my debt but if it was it would be statute barred letter - see here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=39267708&postcount=5

It is worth checking you credit file in a month or so just to be certain but I doubt you would find anything on there.

  • Thanx for the info :)

Earlier I did some more digging and called a few people including that mkrr lot. Shop direct have absolutley no records at all under my name, even using the ref number on the mkrr letter for all my old addresses. Mkrr disclosed that it relates to one of the old addresses of mine but I didnt confirm if I lived there or not but I insisted to know what it relates too, turns out to be a catalogue that was possibly used some years ago. The thing is I lived at the address 16years ago... they did not say much more other than my name was on it.

I have done a statory credit report with equifax and chose the post version so hopefully in 7 days I can have a proper look. Im stupid really, should have been checking my credit file alot earlier so a lesson learned there!
  • Just to confirm! how far back does a credit report go? sorry if im sounding a bit clueless but this has never happend to me before.
Tempted to do the online equifax report aswell now as I cant wait 7days.... Im a worrier, silly when I see what some people on these forums go thru, makes my little problem seem like nothing in comparison!

Oh and I assume these mkrr people will not stop bothering me so I must send a statute barred letter. Should I send it asap or see what happens? Should I also request all info they claim to have on me? Im thinking they will keep the postal order that you send, put the money on the debt like what happend to somebody on the forum...

And thanx again guys this forum is a mine of information and wish I joined up ages ago!

I have just received the same letter in my maiden name but have an account with Littlewoods under my married name. They are asking for any payments now being made to be made to them but I am DD to littkewoods and get a text when they take my payment so I would take it as a scam and report it
The pod landed and produced baby Timothy on 10th March 2011
  • Have just received a letter today with a very informal heading for shop direct and not the company of MKDP LLP (not very professional). Unfortunately for me i have a person with the same name, and seeing as they cannot find this debt fiend, they are sending me their debt letters. second letter i have had this month chasing money for this person. First company admitted that they couldnt find this person so were just checking every peron with the same background and sending them letters!!! my credit rating is in the bin at the moment ! lo l:mad:
  • I have received a letter from Shop Direct Finance this morning, it thanks me for my enquiry and apologises for not being able to fulfill my request at my address.
I have not made any such request as I don't use credit at all and had never heard of them. Coming on here however and seeing that they're mixed up with Littlewoods reminded me that when I moved to my current address in 1996 I had letters from Littlewoods about a debt by some previous tenant and had to get them to take my address off their records and have had nothing to do with them since. It's either a scam or total incompetence!
  • the returns address is a company called cadance media ltd, and they deal in dvds etc
  • I've just gotten this letter today which is freeking me out at the moment.
After googling some of the names in the letter.
Shop direct finance comany limited, it points to these shops.

    Littlewoods
    additions direct
    very
    isme
    woolworths
    Littlewoods europe

    And after googling MKDP LLP
I got this site and a lot more with regards to this been a scam letter.

    This is the letter recived.
We are writing to inform you that the above account was assigned and transferred by Shop Direct Finance Company Limited to MKDP LLP on the 4th October 2010.

This means that the effective owners of the above account are now MKDP LLP.

MKDP LLP has appointed MKRR as their servicing agent to manage your account on their behalf. All contact regarding this account should now be directed to MKRR,
TradePro House, Seebeck Place, Knowlhill, Milton Keynes MK5 8FR. They can be called on 0330 300 1004.

We confirm that the amount outstanding on your account as the 4th October 2010 was £874.41.

With effect from date of receipt of this notice all payments due to Shop Direct Finance Company Limited shall be paid to MKDP LLP. The details of the MKDP LLP account for these purposes are: Royal Bank of Schotland, Sort Code 15-10-00, and Account Number 22910720, Please quote DSD####### on all payments you make.

This is worrying me because I had a littlewood store card back in 1999.
Also the letter does not feel right.
Its asking for payments but not asking how much and how offten.

I realy don't know what to do now.
