Refused Vanquis and Aqua card

I've been self employed all my working life (around 22 years) I was given tonnes of credit in the beginning, all of which was payed off (although not all that is on file?) and I have a mortgage (which is nearly payed off) but find it strange I can't walk into a shop/shop online with a good credit rating.
Nevertheless I've been pre-approved with my bank for 2k, they are apparently phoning tommorow. I'll wait and see what happens!
Its always the best way when lenders are not willing to lend, the easy option is going to be your own bank as they know your account history.
Basically if you have a good debt to income percentage not to much unused credit,no late or missed payments,no defaults or anything like that and a good few years managing money, accounts etc then there's no reason why most lenders won't grant you credit.0 -
What about previous addresses? They should be listed on your report if you were registered there.Ah I see, the only thing I can think of is the house was newly built around 1.5 years ago and I wasn't on the electoral register until about a year ago but would have thought that would be okay by now?
Don't "guess". Ask the CRA why it's still there and, if the default date is over 6 years ago, ask them, or the lender, to remove it.Looking at my file the default is 6 years 3 months ago, so due to come off I guess.0 -
i was turned down by vanquis 6 months ago and reapplied monday and was acccepted today so maybe you just need to reapply in 6 months?
i have 4 defaults and 2 ccjs!0 -

This is EXCEPTIONALLY good advice. I had 2 Defaults and an Arrangement To Pay on my account and would not be able to source a credit card anywhere else. However, my bank were happy to offer me a credit card at a High Street Standard 16.9% APR and with a £5,500 limit. I've always been very good with my bank so I suppose there is some reward for loyalty in this day and age...0 -

Oh that's a shame. Have you considered applying for a card with your own bank?
Although if you've been declined for a Vanquis and Aqua, I don't think there would be much hope for you.
I don't quite understand what you mean by "Up ya hee hee", what is a "hee hee"?We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
