Ahh many thanks for your replies. Please don't get me wrong I am not trying to be awkward, I am just trying to sell my house. And it is upsetting that we can not sell because of next door. I have no problem with the business and they are doing really well, it is just that people do not want to move next to a house full of kids I guess and see 3 great big vehciles outside the property. I agree all houses will sell for the right price but do not see why mine should be loosing value because of this. Many thanks again for comments.

Hmm. If your neighbour is doing her business properly she cannot have more than 3 children under 5, or more than 6 if under 10, including her own, at any time of the day. (I might be slightly wrong with ages here.)

School-aged children are at school until 3 pm every day. So how can she have a house full of kids?

How about asking her to cooperate - i.e. park her mini-van elsewhere, and schedule viewings for when she is out (you can check with her)? If she is difficult then you can be difficult too - such as phone OFSTED and express your concern.

I live next door to a lady who does fostering and I think she has around 5-6 at a time including her own, but it is always quiet in her house. And she has just one people carrier in her drive. If anything, I found her living nearby very comforting because she such a nice lady and does an honourable thing.

Must admit I would run a mile from buying that house, my current neighbours have a 2 yr old that screeches like a banshee at all hours, and the sound just grates, am sure there is something wrong with it but hey ho, am moving soon to a detached house with 3ft thick walls so its not my problem anymore.

I too am surprised that she is allowed to do that if she is renting - she must either be breaking her lease or have special terms with her LL..just because the council is involved doesn't mean that her rental agreement allows it.

Personally If I wanted to sell that much i'd be doing 2 things.

    1) Only doing viewings when shes out and vans are not there - any sensible buyer would be driving by and poking about at all hours anyway so will notice, but you might catch a silly one and get lucky.

    2) if this doesnt work i'd be looking at finding out if her lease allows her to run a business (tipping off the LL somehow maybe), but obviously this could come back to haunt you as its a bit mean.

Personally i'd be in the same position as your buyers - there is no way i'd knowingly buy a house next to someone who was childminding daily, as a business or otherwise. Especially with young children. Sadly I think you will find it very difficult to sell regardless of how low you drop the price :(

You may get a buyer like above or you may get someone like me that wouldn't give a monkey's if next doors was a childminders.

In fact it would be a bit of a bonus, as I could enquire about her looking after mine when they finish school and wouldn't have to go far to collect them after work ;)

Am I the only person in the world who loves the sound of happy children? I love walking past playgrounds and hearing the sounds of children playing, the laughter, the shouting and even the shrieks of joy. To me the sound of happy children is music to my ears

I don't understand the thoughts of some people on here, after all I would think that the children are all gone by 6 and most adults are at work until then, so what noise problems would there be?

  • Also bear in mind that these types of childminding businesses tend to be only short-lived affairs i.e. people usually do them only when their own children are of that kind of age. So if the price was right, it would not bother me.

In the current climate, buyers are increasingly picky and use any excuse in a peculiarly British way to try and find a reason why their either dont like the place or think its too expensive.

And I would execute people who park on the zigzags outside schools.
    It's usually parents.

I'd not buy next to noisy children. I do have a good reason for this too as the noise levels make me want to scream and hit things. I have extra-super-sensitive hearing to certain frequencies and it puts me into "distress" when I'm around those noises .... and kids are one of them.

    I know!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's why it makes me so mad! They are going to pick up their kids but think it's ok to park where they like.

It is one of my pet hates!

Don't get me started on the monkies who think it's alright to drive along the pavement whilst waiting for their kids either.

I assume this is a family house you're selling in a street of family houses? Just what do they expect? It sounds like morons looking in an area thats wrong to begin with (in respect to being family houses).

What would you say if it was just a family with several kids? Why should what vehicles they park make any difference?

I think parking cars on the roads, half on pavements, blocks the view and makes roads less safe.

And I would execute people who park on the zigzags outside schools.

    :)

And houses with no drives wouldn't be allowed cars...

Oh heck I'm really extreme in my dislike of cars parked everywhere :)

Excellent! Want to club together to buy a rocket launcher and tow truck ? :rotfl:
