It doesn,t mention any domain. It had to be joe134@g-mail because it went into my g-mail inbox,I haven,t had joe134@aol which is my registered one with MSE, the one that we presume was stolen.Why use g-mail when they are sure aol is my real domain?I understand your idea, but I would have thought I would have got one via aol first, but I ,ve had nothing.If I had one via aol. I may have been duped into opening it:::Because it was in g-mail I just deleted it, without knowing about any spoof mse e-mails.Seconds later I got cosher weekly e-mail and read about it there, half way down;;;;;
Perhaps the AOL one was filtered out by AOL?
As to why use gmail when they know your AOL one? Because if the prefix is a real persons name then there is a reasonable chance that there is someone with the same name with a gmail account. There is also a reasonable chance that someone with an AOL account also has a gmail account with the same prefix. For example, the email that I have registered here is a hotmail.com, however, I also have the same prefix with my ISP. If hotmail had filtered it out then there is a chance that they could "attack" me at a different email account.PS, there are nearly 900 posts on this, and although I haven,t read every one, Has anyone located this TROJAN, what,s it called, and how has whatever problem it,s supposed to have caused, been solved.Who found out it was a trojan, and is it Maliscous, these are the main things, not who has and hasn,t got it?A poll is not solving any problems,It,s not the cause, it,s the cure thats needed,MSE
Yes. I suggest you read back a bit because the info is there.There are some, like me who got my e-mail via domain not linked to this site but with username correct;?and others.
Can you answer this question...Is the prefix for your gmail and AOL email accounts the same?0 -
Don't you think that is a little unkind Joe? This is a forum for people to discuss their views and opinions even if others disagree with those opinions, if everyone who had a different view took your advice to keep quiet it would soon become a bit boring here!
It was me being unkind, not Joe. And yes I shouldn't have said be quiet. I have deleted that from my original post, and I apologise to meher. But meher is wrong to say there is no evidence of breech. Martin Lewis accepts the evidence is there, and seems to think it's from the breech one year ago. To be able to put a username with the associated email has to have come from this site.0 -

So sorry to have attributed your post to Joe and thanks for owing up to the post, decent of you.0 -
Actually I got the feeling too, there's far too much publicity and far too long even though there isn't a shred of evidence of breach. People would hesitate to sign up or use links or downloads if any site is publicised as having security issues. Imagine John Lweis showing up as having a security breach and then asking for email address to sign up for offers. I'd think long and hard before I sign up and certainly won't shop. The opportunity to post or give evidence has been offered. There's no evidence. So, imo, no need for banners on top. Since I like a little bit of thrill, i like :snow_grin this thread though.
I am not blaming MSE for the breach (it can and does happen to anyone!) but in my opinion, this thread should ABSOLUTELY remain open until we are given some re-assurances that any potential threat has passed and as somewhere to assist people who as as yet may be ignorant of the significance of this trojan.0 -
I got one! DELETED IT SIMPLE AS
Martin keep up the good workIf I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0 -
Sorry, I simply do not understand your post. How can you say there has not been a breach?0
