Mr Lewis and this site turn over millions of pounds a year. Its no different to a bank or major retailer. If they had done this the media and those affected would be crucifying them especially when it transpired they knew about it for a year and did nothing.

And the amount you paid by way of a subscription to this forum was exactly. . . how much?

If I were you, I'd be asking this £multi-million enterprise to give me my money back.

And then I'd keep well clear of it in future because there's no point in posting on a forum as insecure and as hypocritical as you believe this one to be.

I haven't read all of the thread and I'm no computer expert, but if it hasn't been mentioned is it possible our names have been collected from Facebook. A lot of us post on there and have sent friend requests stating who we are on MSE. Just a thought. Probably much more complicated than that.

`i`m not on face-book under this email user-name, plus the email wasn't sent to the email address i opened this account with, it was sent to the one i have on my public profile on here, even more scary who ever sent the virus must have gone through every ones profile :(

You will be OK, don't worry.

You would have had to have run an exe file within a link to become infected, if you never opened the email nothing could have happened. :)

Yes I got one and was bemused when I saw it but didn't read it. I was concerned that my username could have gone anywhere but n harm done as far as I can see.

Just need to sort out amending my password!

I'm not on Facebook, so they never got it from there. And my email is supposed to be hidden, so they got it out of the database itself, not by trawling people's public profiles.

  • Jeez - whats the big deal.

I get tons and tons of things like this almost daily.

Use different passwords. Dont click on links if you are unsure. Have AV and run regular scans.

Move away, nothing else to see here.

Unless you have clicked on the link in the email, downloaded the zip file, extracted it and deliberately run the trojan program, then you should be fine.

    Thanks fermi.

I've had problems accessing my computer this morning, but i won't go into details as to how,on here. I've had this before, and thats when i had to have windows reinstalled. I'll just have to see how it goes, doing a massive clean up now, but like i say, i'm no teccie.

Fortunately, i'm starting a job this week, where a work colleague reinstalled windows for me last time, so hopefully they will oblige, again.

  • Sorry I clicked the wrong answer in the poll - I got one to an old username (I forgot my log in details) and that was pre-2010 <slinks off for being so dumb>
