I have received a reply from webmaster saying they are looking into it, so at least that is encouraging news.

It is a shame though that some people haven't verified because MSE members really should be doing what they can to help.
I think what Martin is saying, is that no-one who joined this year is confirmed as receiving this spam.

Got this email a couple of days ago.

Picked it up as a scam with the .hu address, but like most others what is worrying is how the site has been 'hacked' or has information just leaked out due to poor data protection? Employee (Ex??) decided to download the info then use it later on, either way slightly worrying!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
  • I think its unlikely this is not linked to the previous leak.

Still no answer to the obvious question though. Why were people not told their details had been leaked?

My daughter received 1 with her username on the 17th, fortunately it went straight into her junk box.

I recieved one of these emails earlier this week, fortunatly for me it went straight to my spam folder

so I took a second glance, didn't recognise anything on it. so I deleted it straight away

as for a number of the comments on this thread,

I find them absolutely, insulting and shameful, to Martin & all the people involved in MSE,

having been a member of this site for 4 + years, the bargains (and there's been plenty) the advice & assistance been offered from this site, has been absolutely first class

for this I am very, very grateful and the first time something goes wrong I'm certainly not going to start calling people on here for all sorts

yes, no doubt something has obviously has has gone wrong

Wonder how many of these people posting various accusations against are still checking the Quick Grab it quick & various other threads

    shame on you
  • My suspicious email was addressed to my username and an old original email address. I've now on my third email address with MSE; the latest one (which I changed to last year sometime) has not had one of these emails (so far), I have yet to check the second email address.

I have today reported this suspicious email to MSE by sending a copy of the full header to webmaster@moneysavingexpert.com and also cc'd a copy to Martin@moneysavingexpert.com.
Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to p*** us off.
