Old people are a target because they may not fight back.

What an ageist statement why on earth do you think that 'old people' do not stand up for their rights just as much as anyone else, a lot of 'old people' are more aware of the need for regular checks and maintenance of their vehicles than some of the younger drivers on the roads.

Oh and incidentally I am an older person and I have yet to be a 'target'.

Consider if you are stopped to be warned that your Road Tax will run out next week, and then the officer says 'your steering feels dodgy'. what will be your response?.....

Have you actually had this dream?

Now you are posting about this type of hallucination scenario, it makes me wonder if you have actually taken too many tablets, not stopped taking them!

This "shortly to expire warning" service you now tell us about that the police are carrying out around you (which of course will involve around 8% of vehicles on the road from the 23rd of every month) seems counter productive to your original thoughts.

Surely in your world, the police would like to catch us with expired tax discs, then get even more off us to pay their expenses???

The offences you mention have been endorsable (i.e. you get points) for years, and whenever an officer isues an FPN for one of them you get a fine + points - not one or the other.

Whether to deal with a motoring offence by way of a warning, a Fixed Penalty Notice or court summons is usually a matter of discretion for the officer, but again - it always has been.

I thought FPNs were a relatively recent invention aimed at increasing revenue but without clogging the courts up with lots of cases.

Have no idea what you are talking about, perhaps you have taken too many tablets. if any one is legal on the road then no one has the right to stop you to tell you about what you should do in the next week or month.
If you have no vision of what is coming then it is your loss.

Bit strange, as the Police do that already! They always had the power to stop and caution/fine etc for vehicle defects.....

Which is how it should be- I ensure my car is roadworthy, so should others. It's officer discretion if you're stopped.

Police Officers being able to issue FPN's for motoring offences (other than parking) came in over 20 years ago.

I didn’t realise it was that long ago but in any event, 20 years ago still qualifies as "relatively recent" in my world :D

A lot of people. mostly old are being issued FPN and in almost all cases they attempt to issue Penalty points as well

It may be a conspiracy involving DVLA. They have recently added all kind of things 'Tyre, seat belts' brakes steering, etc for which police can issue you with FPN and penalty points. All these are checked during M.OT and no person is competent enough to question police. These problems with the car are so subjective and the opinions will differ, but if they do not like your face, you will get the points and many other things.

Car insurance may automatically goes up by Pound 100 for any conviction 'penalty points'. I think this money goes to DVLA, Police expenses and to line insurers pocket.

All these officials are working against citizens and should not have the law to back them up. Every one should be talking to their MP's and write to who ever to rid of this public fleecing, being invented by every Tom !!!!!! and Harry.

Don't take it lying down, fight it.

    Sebastian

Anyone who can't work out when their seatbelt is on or offf, check lightbulbs and tyres (or get kwik fit to do it for free!) should not be on the road.

Brakes and Steering arent FPN's although they could make the car unroadworthy and fixed first.

I think your rant is completely wrong.

Check the penalty points criteria.Did not say any thing about bulbs, if a fuse is blown during your journey and the rear lights or brake lights don't come on then you have commited an offense, regardless whether you knew it or not.

Did not say any thing about wearing a belt, a twist in the seat belt is an offense, and an MOT failure.

If all cops had a fair mind then it would be ok, but wait till you come across a nasty one as traffic warden may be issuing tickets as well.
