Check the penalty criteria on DVLA site, Did not say anything about bulbs, if during your journey a fuse is blown and your rear lights or Brake lights don't come on then it is an offense whether or not you were aware of it. A law abiding citizen will not drive on bald tyrs, it may happen if there is a leaking valve or very slow puncture.

Stiff steering is an offense, God knows how will they measure it by the road side.

If all cops were fair minded then it would be ok, but you wait till some of these traffic wardens are given this power.

Mr redundant, how will you prove you did not know any thing about it? Police when checking a car are in contact with DVLA and for some reason DVLA love police to issue penalty points.

Tell us why they love it?
And you explain to them.
They probably wont believe people like you who quite clearly think they can do what they want when they want but the average motorist who has an inkling of sense will be given a chance to fix it.

Don't be angry, you will change your mind. Think of the reasons why should this be law, it is not to punish frequent law breakers as they don't care, it is aimed at innocent law abiding citizens to raise extra revenue.

The only chance you will be given to fix it is through a pink slip, prohibiting you from driving the car, you need to hire a truck to take your car to a garage. Once they fix the fault it has to be re-mot'd and then cleared by the police before you can drive it.

This is not scare mongering, I hope this never happens to any one but signs of it happening are there. That is why I am suggesting you approach your MP and voice your concerns now.

Why do they love Police to issue penalty points? This is where I say might be a conspiracy and I think the automatic increase in insurance premium is being shared. 10 million drivers could raise multi billions towards their bonuses and pay rise.
