Maybe there aren't many people on here who are applying for Uni as most are alreayd in Uni by now.
I was wondering I'll open and thread and see what Uni's peole have applied for and get some feedback from people who currently go there.
I chose Business Management and picked all of these 6 Uni's: (In order)
1. Lancaster University
2. Brunel University
3. Kings College London
4. UCL
5. Kingston Upon Thames University
6. Wesminster University

Are you looking at 2007 entry ? None of my sons are due to go in 2007, the next is off in the 2008 intake but my eldest went 3 weeks ago in the 2006 intake.
Costing us an absolute fortune as well, approx £9000 for this first year alone.
Good luck with whichever one you choose.

Hi Soolin,
Im going in the 2007 term. Hopefully, I get into the Lancaster University which is regarded as one of the best business school in Europe (someone told me it was one of the best in the world, not sure about that).
Did it cost £9000 for one of your sons? I thought it would be less than that. Money should'nt be an issue, if you come out with a degree it will be well worth it, especially, if you can land on of the top jobs.

I'm at Aber too, Holstar's right - it's a fab uni with a good department ... and the seaside and lots of open space!
But I know it's tough choosing, so good luck.0 -

His accomodation is £3800 for year 1, his course fees 3000 and we estimated books travelling and all other living expenses at about £2200. We ended up getting most of his books on Amazon quite cheaply, I think we spent barely £120 so far, although he will need more later. Hopefully though we can sell the ones on he doesn't use and put that towards buying more. He's taken my laptop, but we may need to buy him one later.
In two years time I will have two sons at uni, and 2 years after that another one will go (assuming they choose to of course) so we are in for some major expense.

Also £120 is a lot to be spending on books in the first year! I spent £18 on books in my first year... £3 of which was library fines! I just got everything from libraries (uni and local libraries) or charity shops - most of the reading I did I got from electronic journals and stuff - was much easier. I think I bought 1 proper text book which I got cheap second hand.
My second year I probably spent about £25-30 but should have spent less as one of the ones I bought didn't get used - that said I can probably sell it for as much as I paid as it was very cheap secondhand. I also travelled to Liverpool to use the library and archives there - which I guess was towards the cost of books.. but that was £5ish for the train fare + £2 photocopying compared to the £70 it would have cost to purchase the book and I got a nice day out.
This year I will spend a little more as a few of the key books related to my dissertation aren't available widely so I will need to purchase copies or spend a lot of money travelling back and forth between libraries that do have it.. So I will probably purchase a few of those. I doubt I'll spend more than £100 though.0 -
My sister is applying to do Physiotherapy at:
Birmingham, Southampton, Cardiff, Nottingham.. and then probably Manchester Met and somewhere else as insurance choices.. although she's still undecided between Man Met, Sheffield Hallam, Keele and Northumberland I think..0
