Is virgin mobile any good?
Comments

Hi - I'm thinking of signing up to their £10 a month blackberry deal but I have never had a mobile contract before so am new to this. At the moment I am on tesco pay as you go and am happy with their service and coverage and I only spend £10 every 2-3 months but I've heard blackberrys are really good and having had a look at their site I am tempted.
What worries me is getting hit by charges, if I go over my internet usage or calls allowance. I can't seem to find any information on their charges. at the moment I hardly use my mobile for calls and send less than 50 texts a month so I should be fine, but when you have the internet available it might be tempting. I know they say internet is unlimited but I'm wary there's a catch I'm missing. So I guess my question is:
1) Is the blackberry worth having?
2) does anyone know what they charge if you go over the limit?0 -
I've been with all the 'main' 5 networks and Virgin over the years and, in my experience, Virgin have the best customer service by far.0

I am happy enough with them, have been with them for about 3 years now, 2 contracts, both blackberry contracts! When it goes wrong they are no worse then any other mobile company, in fact a bit better, have had horrific troubles in the past with both O2 and T-Mobile, signal is fine where I am, and pretty much the same everywhere I go.
I don't think any network is particularly good at the moment, so it could be that Virgin are the best of a bad bunch!!!0 -
like all networks virgin are only as good as their network, and they piggyback off t mobile so you get a signal where ever you get a t mobile signal.
if you are a virgin media customer you can get their 8p calls and 8p texts tariff which is very good and for all PAYG tariffs you can get 1GB of data for £5 valid for 30 days which is one of the best data deals of all the networks.0 -
i have been with virgin mobile since 2003, and i would say there customer service is excellent,
get a payg phone and i recommend the addict tariff, £10 gets you 300 texts a month, £15 gets your 600 texts a month and £20 top up gets you unlimited texts (max 3000) and 1gb of mobile internet, and you also get to keep your top up wether its £10, £15 or £20 top up
you also get 10% off all your top ups towards a new mobile when you register online.
I too have been with them a number of years monthly sim only packages ... the most recent was the £12 500 mins 300 txt no internet ... then informed them of the £10 tesco deal ... so they then proceeded to upgrade me to the £20 month offer of 800 mins 500 txt n 2gb of tinternet ... but discounted the package by £8 ! will stay with them forever !0 -
All 4 of us have phones with Virgin, 2 sim only deals with 300 minutes and unlimited texts, 1 £10 a month with phone, 200 minutes and 500 texts and 1 £20 a month blackberry with unlimited texts and internet, and 500 minutes. The signal isn't the best, especially in my mum's house, for some reason, and you have to be careful when you phone customer aservices. I think they switch over to a foreign call centre at some point during the day, and if you get one of those they're pretty rubbish when you need things changing. However, when I've needed to sort things out and got through to this country they've been great!0

I'm another one that agrees that the signal can be hit or miss. My kitchen is in the basement of our 3 storey house and I cant use the phone in the kitchen as theres no signal, I have to go outside!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I have just finished one contract as they had nothing good and the only offer was to go on a sim until January when some new phones come in.
Did they give you any ideas as to which phones? My contract runs out at the end of January and I'd been having a look around in advance, was starting to think I'd have to move to get a decent phone and I've been with Virgin for 10 years, very happy with them, so wasn't keen on that idea.0 -
I'm on them and I'm happy enough - they don't send me a bajillion advertising texts like Orange, they're not O2, I've got a phone I like (will probably try to upgrade it when my contract term runs out though) and the network's decent enough - heck I got a network dotted about the Isle of Skye which is pretty dreadful for mobile reception. Works out cheaper for me than PAYG was just in terms of picking up voicemails and returning the odd call to be honest.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
