  • I'm not sure how to post a new thread, but who pays for the labour and scaffolding if an inverter or panel needs replacing if the installer will not do it for free or the installers guarantee only lasts say 5 years and the panel guarantee is for 25 years?

Why would you need scaffolding for an inverter? Ours is in the attic.

As for panels, as others have said, very, very little to go wrong with them.

I realise that a scaffold would only be needed for an panel and it's unlikely to become faulty, but it could happen. A thing to watch out for when receiving quotes is extras such as scaffolding, paying for servicing later and who pays for any fault equipment to be removed and replaced when being sent to the supplier under guarantee. For instance if your installer will put up scaffolding and remove a faulty panel and travel to you for for free that's fine as the manufacturer will replace it. Or an inverter replacement and even if it is in the loft could incure installer labour and travel costs/time. One for removal and one to put a manufacturer repaired replacement/repaired item back in again.

I recently got stung as BP supplier will only allow my installer to remove any faulty equipment. He lives 100 miles away and said he would charge me labour and travel costs, with no prices mentioned. So much for the so called free guarantee!

I just thought I would add that the main supplier as now agreed that I can get someone local to remove any faulty equipment at my own cost. It saves travel time and costs for a distant installer, which I would have had to pay though. However I still would have expected the installer to have included removal and return in his guarantee though. I even gave him a £100 tip! So beware of the the guarantee wording to include labour as well as parts.

    Thoughts please

    Been quoted £12,000 for 12 Sharp 235 panels.Output 2.82kWp...is this a good price?

It seems a bit expensive to me! There are people on the auction web sites offering £2.94Kwp systems with good panels and an SMA inverter for £8,591.35. They would charge extra to fit and commission it, but I don't think they would charge £3,500 extra for that.

MCS 2.73 KWP SOLAR PV SYSTEM FULLY INSTALLED Here is one I found fully installed for £9,316 There are loads of installers around now and prices are falling all the time. There is another year before the feed in tarrif drops below 41.3 pence per unit generated.

    Hi

That's £3.41/Wp, not a bad price, but nowhere near the best price posted on this forum .... I believe that works out at around £3.01/Wp so far, and that's an SMA inverter with Sharp Monocrystalline panels fully fitted.

There's much more discussion on panels, efficiencies & prices on this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2416423 ..... and this one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2244389
