This thread is about cards being swiped by retailers, rather than being slotted into PIN machine.
Essentially, it is to cut down on the huge amount of fraud being perpetrated in that part of the world.0 -
No problem in Greece last week - all transactions were signature not pin. Can't remember using any C&P machine ever in Greece.0

Recently back from Florida and didn't have any problems. But never had to use my pin. Every transaction was just signed for.0

Me as well, so I'm confused as to blindman's post 9 back in this thread. The Chip & Pin system in the US isn't compatible with ours. I spoke to Nationwide and they said you won't get asked for your PIN because of this.0 -

Thinking about it when we went to New York I may have signed for stuff (can't remember-must be my age:cool:)
I know my missus had a problem once but she did give the retailer an expired card!
Yes, she's just confirmed she signed for the credit card transactions:rolleyes:
Sorry if I confused some -it's me age ya know:eek:
Though I did buy some rail passes from an ATM type machine and input my PIN on that one OK0 -
Never had a problem using mine a couple of days ago in Kos and mine was only swiped and signed for."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

This was my experience in NY. At stores, everything signed for, however at rail stations etc, had to tap in PIN, which worked fine."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

The one I used was in New Jersey (at the Secaucus junction) and I input my PIN OK.
In New York I couldn't use my UK credit card as the rail ATM (buying a Metro card) asks for a ZIP code as well as a PIN (prevent fraud I think) so I had to use cash.
There is usually a manned ticket booth at stations so I assume you could use your card there (usually a long queue....)
I'm off to Chicago tomorrow so if I get problems I'll let you know.0
