Parking in a pub driveway

Hardly a high horse....
you said..
It was all fine until the pub got a clamping firm in and put signage up to make it pay and display. This has annoyed a lot of parents because the pub doesn't even open till midday so there was no need at all to be funny about who parks there at 9am
Now the council has put double yellow lines around all the roads too.
I understand that school run parking can be a pain for residents but also lots of parents have no choice but to drop off on their way to work etc.
You think you can park on the entrance to the pub. So for your convenience no-one else's. And if you have three children perhaps birth control would be the next step..:rotfl:
(And before you get on YOUR high horse, that was a joke..:rotfl:)0 -
If the green area is public then the double yellow lines are in force from the centre of the road to the start of the private land! So if that red car was yours and that is public verge, pavement whatever you can get a parking penalty.
As stated above you can drop someone off but you cant wait or leave the vehicle.0 -

Do I? I thought I asked the question to find out if I could legally do it or not. If I thought I could do it, why would I come here?
And... seriously... birth control? You are incredibly rude and ignorant.0 -
Right, I guess this was not originally posted on this parking board, since all you got was lectures - until DaveF327 correctly stepped in and told you that you can park for the purpose of boarding and alighting. Did none of those replying before know that? Why does everyone else before Dave posted, seem to think that a DYL = illegal to park (not true!).
Do not even THINK about parking anywhere near a pub with signs allowing clamping. The people that clamp cars privately are knuckle-dragging money-grabbing scum, operating a practice akin to a protection racket. Clampers have recently been jailed for blackmail, fraud and harassment - you name it they will do it in order to get a few hundred quid from you.
I would consider paying the £1 charge and using the pay & display if I were you, as long as you are VERY careful about displaying the P&D ticket continuously if there are clampers around. I say 'consider' because personally I wouldn't ever park anywhere with a clamping warning sign as these scum are not trustworthy, it has been known for them to shake a car to dislodge a ticket and you certainly wouldn't get away with not buying a ticket or sharing tickets with other Mums. You would have to be VERY careful and I simply wouldn't park in that pub, driveway or not. In fact I would not even visit that pub, ever, as they are frankly idiots for employing clampers and they deserve to lose business - it is that stupid, like allowing thieves on your land to threaten potential customers IMHO.
Or just park further away and walk.
Or just use the double yellows to drop off (without actually leaving the car yourself) if your kids are old enough. It is not 'illegal' to park on double yellow, whatever anyone seems to think - there is no criminal offence in an area where the Council enforce decriminalised parking.
Council PCNs are by far the lesser of two evils if clampers are skulking around.
Avoid the clampers like the plague and tell other Mums the same, if there really are clamping signs up. However, if the signs in that pub car park only allow Parking Charge Notices (not clamping) then you are safe to park there and ignore any stupid fake PCN they slap on your windscreen.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks
Funnily enough the post was made in this section, not moved here but never mind!
I'm not planning on parking anywhere near the pub, although the "clamping" people have not been seen since the signs went up several months ago. Its a company called i-watch, but I wouldn't be surprised if the pub don't pay them any fees any more and just kept the signs up to warn people off. The signs do say "clamping in operation" or words to that effect. Before anyone jumps in AGAIN I will just repeat I am not moaning about what the pub can or cannot do on their own property!
I have a friend very close to the school who has already said I can use her drive so that was my plan... I just wanted to ask a question about this particular spot, that's all0 -

Landlords and retailers don't pay the clampers any fees. Clampers get these contracts because they offer to 'sort out' a perceived parking problem for free.
The clampers get their money by preying on victims (motorists). That's how it works.
NEVER park where there's a clamping sign, that's my motto, you must never assume they are not operating. Thieves are always operating! Take your business, your car and your children elsewhere.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Be interesting to know if the pub has the correct planning consent for a pay and display car park? Got to agree about the correctness of paying a reasonable fee for parking though.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Also clamping will be illegal shortly into the new year, the pub landlord is using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, these people he is alienating are his potential customers, people will vote with their feet and not use his pub, if his business has gone downhill either he will go or the ppc/clampers, all this for 15 minutes in the morning/afternoon! Is it worth all this hassle ?Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Our pub by the school did the same thing.
New landlord, and his wife couldn't get her 4x4 in one morning, so he put up the signs.
After we all stopped using the pub, (it's one of several) the next owners took it down and welcomed us back.
Vote with your feet, if they don't want to be part of the community, it works both ways.0
