Do O2 reward long term customers?
Hi there
I have been with o2 for about 8 years (since they were BT genie!) and other members of my family are also with them. All of our numbers are on the same account. Does anyone know if o2 offer any sort of discount/privileges to customers who have been with them for a long time or those who have several numbers with them?
I'm due for an upgrade and not sure whether I should remain with o2 or look for a better deal, since neither myself or the other members of my family seem to get any benefit from being with o2 for so long.
Any thoughts would be great.
Many thanks

If you are on Pay and Go they give you a certain amount of a new handset, if your on contract they don't do alot for you.0 -
Loyalty is pretty much over. Retentions can mean you might get a better deal or often the same as a new customer if you say you are leaving, but at the end of the day if you are not limited by signal strength then shop about for the best deal....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

On O2, deals that are open to new customers are always open to existing customers, there's something about that in the O2 customer promise or some such.
The only time that loyalty will really pay off is when speaking to retentions or while phoning up after something goes wrong, if somebody phones up to make a legitimate demand that wouldn't normally be allowed and a CSA can't authorise they'll almost always speak to the manager who'll usually ask two initial questions, how long have they been a customer and how much do they spend, if you've been with O2 for a fair amount of time you're more likely to have your demands met even if you're only spending an average amount.0 -
o2 works on a tier basis you start off at blue and go up silver, gold platinum depending on how much you have spent in the last 12months. once you have been with them for over 5 years you go up to silver see: http://www.o2.co.uk/o2rewards/paymonthlysilver0

Well my experience of O2 has caused me to leave them for Tmobile last month .
I started of with Hutchinson Communication in 1990 ish, then because of buy outs I was moved to :- Cellnet, Bt Cellnet & finally O2 so I have been there a long time & I had 5 phones with them on one contract & 2 on another . When I rang up this year at the end of my contract I was told I HAD to move to a different tarrif as mine was no longer available & that I would not be getting any credit because of not upgrading the phone. So it made a loss of some £150 per year per phone !
When I said to them that I thought it was a very poor deal I was asked if I wanted my pac codes to move to another network, no try to talk me round or anything. I accepted the pac codes but they never called back to try to keep me as a customer. I might not be their biggest spender but I was classed as a Gold customer & the only time I ever rang them was at the end of contract times so no hassle for them.
So in short no I do not believe there is any "loyalty" bonus there now .0 -
No network offers long term loyalty if you do not make them enough money. End of the day they are a business and like all Businesses if they just handed out discounts to everyone willy nilly they'd go under and not make any money.
Unfortunatly arguing how long you've been with them won't get you anywhere either because again they are a business and they need to make choices as a business to how they will maintain profit and to continue trading.
Go with whoever will offer you the best deal.0 -
O2 reward high spenders, not long-term contract holders0

Sorry but that is rubbish ! as I stated in my previous post I was a Gold customer & they still gave nothing.0 -
Thanks for all of your comments. Looks like it's definitely worth shopping around for the best deal!0

I'm in a similar position to you - been with them for 10 yrs.
When I changed my phone this year, they gave me free data bolt-on for loyalty (apparently). Was well chuffed as it's saved a lot of dosh.0
