Sky bought out UKOnline years ago so you've been their customer since then (~ 2005 I think).FredHydjack wrote: »Buying my ISP to make me a customer by stealth won't wash - I'll go elsewhere. UKO haven't been taking on new customers for at least a year so they are hardly being used to whip up trade for Sky.0 -
Looks like i will have to go with Sky for my broadband, not many unlimited broadband only isps on my exchange, only other is BT,who i would go with but at £27 a month is out of the question, and Orange, don't really here to much about Orange, neighbour has it as is not 100% happy with them. I supose the offer of 6 months free and £15 after that is pretty good, and at least its only a 12 month contract so if something else comes along i can switch. looks to me though all these ISP's seem to be going down the phone / broadband package, which from what i have heard results in poor broadband. I'm not happy about going to Sky but will give it a try.
Thanks for all the advice0 -
Sky is an infinitely better option than either BT or Orange, even regardless of price. No free lunch, and no free laptop

...I too have been with ukonline for years and am non too pleased with the sky offer at £15 per month...a 50% increase on the £9.99 per month I pay now. Sky are offering 6 months free but I assume you would have to sign a years contract minimum and then have the aggro of changing again. I think I will go to plusnet and ditch bt at the same time.0

You don't have to pay £27. I pay £22.99 -£750 = £15.49 + £3 off my line rental making £12.49/month for unlimited option 3 and you as a new customer could possibly even better that, but you won't know just by listening to the rubbish spouted on here about BT by people who've never used them but just jump on the bandwagon. You need to ring them and negotiate. I've been with them for over 10 years and have only ever lost connection once for a morning about 7yrs ago.Looks like i will have to go with Sky for my broadband, not many unlimited broadband only isps on my exchange, only other is BT,who i would go with but at £27 a month is out of the question0 -

I also don't want to be a Sky customer but I have now been waiting for 7 days for them to send me my MAC. Mind you, they've been quick off the mark trying to sell me their packages - 3 calls in 4 days! :mad:0 -
I too have been with UK Online for years. They have been a brilliant isp and will be missed.
How many isp's allow you to email their high level support and you get a reply inside a day? No limits on downloads to speak of, they only got annoyed at people downloading 500 gig a month or more! Sky bought easynet and ukonline was easynet's consumer product. It ran on the same exchanges as sky but was routed over different parts of the easynet network, no slow downs. very very reliable. goodbye ukonline.
I have moved to Xilo and will go live in just over a week.
Xilo has a lot to live up to.0 -

Call UKOnline Direct!!
No matter what they say SKY can NOT give you a UKOnline MAC code. (They just pass the request over to UKOnline then pass it on to you when, or if, they remember!)
You should call UKOnlines own customer support on 08000 532 222
Ignore the "call SKY" message and select the option for "Billing" Think it's option 2.
Tell them SKY's kept you waiting over a week and you want your MAC code. it only takes a couple of mins for them to generate a code and give it to you!!!
You'll get your MAC code within a few mins either verbally or via email. (I'd get them to send it to an email account so you have a copy of it.)Laters

My thoughts exactly, stealth move, doing it at Christmas. How smelly can you get. Come rain or shine, hell or high water, Im not going to sign up to his homogenised empire. .
I was well served by Ukonline with unlimited downloading for 10 a month. Occasional hiccup periods with email, but no other problems.
If anyone has tips on moving over to Virgin cable, for example, it would be gratefully received.0
