ISP closing down

I have been with UKonline as my isp for almost 8 years now and have no real complaints,i now find out to my horror is that they are shutting down in January,it sems Sky own them and are just closing it down, and we will all be offered to go to Sky.....aghhh. I had a bad do with Sky TV about 15 years back and from what i read on there broadband they are not good at all. Looking at what i can get at my Taunton exchange i am down to Orange,Virgin,Sky,and a expensive BT,i don't want to move my phone line from BT so the likes of Talk Talk ect are not for me. I need a unlimited not a capped connection,at the moment i get about 5gb download speed, it needs to be reliable as well. What are your views and advice on who to go with.....

I think a 15 year old grudge with Sky is out dated to be perfectly honest.

I have recently moved to Sky broadband and can already claim them to be a LOT better than previous provider. We will never have great speeds because we're too far from the exchange but they have increased our speed a lot already to the extent that my sons have commented on how quick websites are loading.

All I'm saying is don't dismiss them out of hand because of something that happened so long ago.

Sky are a massive ISP so of course there are more complaints than about smaller ISPs. It doesn't mean there are proportionately more though.

A 15 year grudge. Geez, get over it.

Check out Xilo. In terms of service and support that are the same if not a bit better than UKOnline's support and a bit cheaper as well...

See what service you can get from them.

SKY's Broadband may be fine if it works, but if you have ANY problems, you quickly find their support is a total nightmare!
UKOnline's Support staff actually knew what they were talking about, not script readers you find in large ISP support centres!

I have been with Sky broadband for the last 3 years now and I've had no issues at all. I'm on the top broadband package (£10pm) and I've never had any caps or throttling of speed for P2P stuff. I'm certainly in no rush to switch. :)

Sky LLU is the obvious choice on the Taunton exchange. But if not for you then there are hundreds of other non-LLU SPs to choose from (though it will be more expensive).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I'd steer clear of Sky too. It's like this. I choose not to be a Sky customer - they have nothing I want. Buying my ISP to make me a customer by stealth won't wash - I'll go elsewhere. I hope a big slice of UKOnline customers go elsewhere too and make buying the ISP an exercise in pointlessness.

The top Sky LLU broadband package pricing is:-

£7.50/month TV subscriber with Sky Talk
    £12.50/ month TV subscriber.
    £15.00/ month Non TV subscriber.

It has not be £10 for some time.
