Sometimes a 'physical' pad/bookl is more useful than a spreadsheet - as the spreadsheet is buried in the computer and can be easy to forget! If you put the pad in a prominent position at home - this all helps.0

I have a book with the bank in the friont and cash in the back. The theory is everything gets written down and the loose change is put in my pot which gets fed back into food money when it reaches a tenner so that week either the budget is higher or it can be put to debt repayment. I say in theory coz the last week has been horrible with money and feeling poorly but back into the swing now.:T
Just done all the paerwork for today so can concentrate on other things. housework:rotfl::rotfl: Craft stuff for a stall I have next week or even reading a book. Busy busy busy!:D0 -
Quick question - I have a HSBC basic bank account and wanting to hook it up to paypal (for paypal to bank payments), affiliate company and google. Am I right in thinking that this shouldn't be a problem ?0

Thank you, you have just motivated me!
What a good idea, I currently 'try' to use a spread sheet to log everything down but it usually gets forgotten about, and by the time I've switched the computer on I get distracted reading these forums! (I suppose at least it's a good thing to get distracted by though!)
I'm going to pop down to poundland and get myself organised - I'm determined 2011 is going to be a good year!!
Well done and thank you :T xxxxx0 -
2011 will be a big debt busting year! good luck everyone!
For those who either have spreadsheets and forget about them or diaries and don't keep up to them (like me!), here's an idea - how about having a wall calendar, you can get these cheap and put it somewhere you will see it, or if you don't want it on show - put it inside a kitchen cupboard / wardrobe door you go in often, grab a red pen & mark each payday, DD and other payments on it. I've got my calendar already (69p from poundstretcher!)! going to start doodling now!
I can't believe i've not been on these forums until recently, i am SO addicted! and they really help me stay motivated! i love you MSE!!!0 -

Hi everyone, though I might join you. It has come to my attention that my finances are in such a mess, having not had an income for nearly 6 months. Now that that's about to change ( I got a new job) I need to get out of debt. I have dug out my old filofax, and will scourer ebay for a cheap diary refill. Looking forward to 2011, hopefully I will be able to keep on top of all my bills.:mad:Total Debt £23,000 due to cheating, lying EX. Aiming to be debt free 2018:mad:0

Hey cool, just noticed that this topic is listed in the newsletter as a "forum tip" . :money:
Not much to add today. OH's mum gave us xmas money which has meant finances don't go into barclays reserve when rent goes out.(money saved on fees!)
My parents are sending Tesco vouchers early so waiting for them before hitting tescos to stock up.
I'm in the process of adding the hsbc basic bank account details to affiliate future, google adsense and paypal so any extra money coming in will go to cash and not swallowed up by barclays.
I'm slowly hitting ebay and listing things to sell to get some more income coming in. I'm paying the ebay fees out of the paypal balance once several auctions have finished, that way .. ebay doesn't have to take any money from my bank0 -
This sounds like an excellent idea. I also have all my budget on a spreadsheet, but it's a pain when you have to turn the computer on to check something. I really like writing things down, it feels more real!
I'm at the beginning of a DMP, spoke to CCCS last Wednesday and went through my budget and everything, I've written the letters to my creditors and set up "token " payments. Going to be sending them off in the next few days.
It's all so much to think about and deal with.:(0 -
