Hi
Sorry to hear Jack was sick after you gave him his Drontal.
Unfortunately, vomiting can occur with any worming product. In your post you asked as to whether anyone has had good results with any other wormer that doesn't require starvation before administration - did you fast Jack before administering Drontal? Because this may have caused the vomiting.
The product can be administered with or without food. My advice to you would be try again but this time give Jack some food and then give him his Drontal.
Hope this helps.0 -
Thanks meerkat I'll ask the vet about those - or can I buy them without seeing a vet?
Online, you need a prescription to buy them, but if I were you, I'd phone your vet and ask - or just go in and ask for Milbemax wormers for a dog weighing <whatever> kilograms. The worst they can do is say sorry, you need an appointment first. Even if you do need an appointment, you'll probably find that after that initial consultation, you can just ask for them.
Henry is on a repeat prescription for anti-inflammatories; I just phone up and ask the receptionist for them, and a couple of days later, they're ready - the vet just has to sign off on them, and I just pop in with Henry a couple of times a year, just to make sure everything's ok, which I would do anyway even if he wasn't on medication. The vet's always pleased to see him and Oliver - and not for financial reasons!0 -

I'll try that if the next Drontal has the same result as last time. Although my vet will probably charge for a consultation too - £32 plus VAT AND the cost of the wormer makes THAT an expensive option!0 -

OMG! I just checked the bill for Tuesday - the consultation, listed as a consultation follow-up, was £13.11 plus VAT. The total bill came to just over £70, but that included Henry's anti-inflammatories, the consultation, the Milbemax and Advocate for fleas.0 -

That's a lot cheaper than my vet...but if it's a follow up, it does come a bit cheaper.
My vet would charge this as a first consultation (for the worming) but it's not a consultation I need, just the worming medication. I think it's fine to pay it if you don't know what's wrong with your dog...but NOT when you do!0 -
I came to search for this thread because I gave Drontal to both boys a few days ago and since then they have both have terribly rumbling tums and Ralph was sick about 4 times the day after.
In themselves they look fine, running about (hopping about in Ralphs case) just as normal but I had never had this problem before. This morning both of their tums were rumbling again
I only gave them a chicken breast each yesterday in the hope it would clear the upset stomachs
I shall watch them today and if they are still both rumbling take them to the vets tomorrow.0 -

I wonder if the Drontal formula has changed in any way? I didn't have this problem last time I gave Jack the Drontal...haven't tried it again yet as I thought I'd give it a week or so since the last attempt.0 -
I gave both of our dogs Drontal Plus worming tabs on Friday morning. They weren't sick, didn't seem as though they felt poorly in any way, however, on Saturday they were both rather 'liquid' in the toilet department
All is back to normal now though, so I'm putting that down to the tablets, and as they didn't vomit at least we won't have to re-dose them..."Your life is what your thoughts make it"
"If you can't bite, don't show your teeth!"
R.i.P our beautiful girl Suki. We'll love and miss you forever
