should i refund or not?

the winning bidder has received my item and now says its not as described, (i advertised as perfume which was refillable bottle) she says its not refillable, yet others on ebay are selling the same item stating it is refillable. To be honest i thought it was refillable but wasnt sure, advertised it as refillable.

How does the buyer know its not refillable if they only received it today? she is asking for a refund ASAP and wants a SAE sending to her, I did direct her to other items of the same which also state refillable, and i did point out my auction stated TWICE there were no refunds.

Sooooo do i refund or not?

  • could you email some of the others on ebay and ask them how they open them to refill them, if they reply then you could email her these instructions and see if it works

No if you have sold the item and it is as described I dont' think you do have to refund it. But will this affect your credit scoring feedback?

Why not check with ebay plus it may be a scam that she empties your perfume and fills it back with water and keeps the lot. Would ebay be able to tell you if that kind of thing was going on?

    Hope you get it sorted.

You should not state "no refunds" unless you make it clear that that does not apply to faulty or misdescribed goods.

As you are not sure I think you would be better off refunding and checking the item on return.

mmm good points, i shall consider my options, like someone said, i could be getting water back! i did email some other people who were selling and they say it is refillable, some say it isnt. I did advertise it in good faith, and i did say no refunds due to nature of product.

Mmmmm difficult one, i want to be fair, but dont want ripping off.

If it isn't refillable or if you now are unsure then really you should refund and cover postage costs. The buyer bought in good faith also. What is the buyers feedback like, if there is no sign that they have scammed before then you really have to take their word.

Are you sure you're selling exactly the same item?

I can think of one example... a perfume that's available as an atomiser (not refillable) but also as a bottle with a screw lid.

Let her complain to paypal, then offer a full refund once the item is returned. Paypal will say that the buyer must foot the bill to return the item and provide a tracking number. This should put her off, if not, you at least get your item back.

can you wait to refund till after youve received the item back?

at least then you can check for tampering.
