Childish I know, but I hate the thought of giving them the benefit of my money for any longer than I absolutely have to! Will you really forget? Set a reminder on your phone for the 29th Nov!

I know what you mean, lol, but would rather get it out of the way than potentially forget and get a fine as the rest of the month looks like it will be a busy one! ;)

All you have got to do now is remember to swop the old and new discs at the end of the month.

So you still have something to remember. :D

As a tax disc only has an expiry date on it, I've always just put the new one on when I bought it. I've done that for over 20 years....

I was just about to post that you're an idiot for waiting until the end of the month but thought I'd best check...

...and according to DirectGov you're right, damn you!!

"If you buy a new tax disc before your current tax disc expires, you should not display the new one until the old one has expired. The new tax disc is only valid from the first day of the month you have taxed from. The maximum penalty for failure to display a current tax disc is £200."

It all seems a bit academic to me, but I'm sure some jobsworth would happily fine me £200 so I'd best change my ways :o [edit: I can see the sense in that rule back in the days when the tax disc was the only proof you'd paid, but now the information's in the DVLA's database, and that's what's used by ANPR etc - looks like an outdated rule to me]

  • I've ordered mine online ready for the 1st December. My reminder came in the post last Monday.

You can order it online from the 5th of the month, even before you get the reminder through by using the ref on your V5.

I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I'm sure you can't display them until the date it is valid from. If you have already removed your old one, you could be done for failing to display a valid disc.

Outdated rule but still in force, So they can fine you for not displaying. They could put all the
extra money towards running the new idea's for ripping off the public department.

I keep reading the jobs section, I want to work on that department i have some brilliant ideas.

  • I put mine in when I get it, you'd have to come up against a proper jobsworth to ever be fined for it, lol.
