Gravity Fed Central Heating

Hi All,
Ive had couple of plumbers and BG around trying to give quotes on a new boiler to replace my very old one.
The problem i now have is trying to let them know what type of system i have due to limited access to lofts etc. They all thinks its a gravity fed system but as they cant see all the components none are too sure.BG have stated they will do a full survey of the home.
So far we know for a fact that there is a hot water tank in the upstairs toilet and a small pump within the boiler.
Is there such a thing as a one tank gravity fed central heating system or should there somewhere within my house be a cold water tank and a cyclinder for the central heating?
Any help would be appreciated so i can try and pinpoint what i should have.

What is the boiler make & model?
Does the hot water tank actually get hot?
Why cant you get to your loft? If it is a height problem you may have a coffin tank up there that do not require much height. Not Again0 -
Oh, & a picture of your hot water tank wouldn't go amiss because you may have an unvented hot water tank. Not Again0

Boiler is a concord RS30/50 installed in 1966 only upgrade has been the piping, hot water tank, addition of loft insulation and a grundfos pump installed on the boiler.
I will try and get a picture of the hot water tank.
Cant access the loft as it requires a 4m height ladder to get up there hence no idea what is there accept for the insulation.0 -
This boiler is usually fitted to a standard open vent heating system.
By gravity, do they mean how your hot water is heated? If so, how many pipes have you off the boiler?
If you have 2 x 22mm and 2 x 28mm, then it will be a gravity hot water installation.
I would be a bit wary of an engineer who couldn't tell you what type of system you have.
A system that has only one tank in the loft would have a hot water cylinder that says 'Primatic' on it.0 -

Apart from the hot water tank, that is exactly the system I have, except that all four pipes are 28mm with an external pump on the heating circuit. There are two tanks in the loft but I'm sure it could be bodged to work with one.
It confused me when I first moved in.0 -

I still cant get the clip of the cover on top of the water tank to take a picture but i can definitly say that the central heating boiler has 2 x 28mm pipes on it and the water boiler has 1 x 28mm pipe and having borrowed a ladder from the neighbour there is nothing in the loft other than insulation and spiders.
So im guessing this would be a primatic system?0 -
I now have the pictures not what i thought it would be

How about a pic of your hw cylinder? That just looks like a plastic cold storage tank of some kind.0

That tanks is all thats connected to the central heating boiler as far as i can tell hence the thread as to whether there should be a cylinder and another tank somewhere that i cant find.0
