Correct, 02 is by far your best choice there. Remember to sign up online via a cashback site to get that and the 3 months free, and if you register an 02 mobile no. there is a further £5pm saving.

Thanks so much I will definitely do that I don't have an 02 mobile number but the prices seem fantastic anyway, if I can get my phone service from them or anyone else as well I will be running far far away and fast from bt lol.

You don't need to have an 02 mobile account yourself-anyone's will do, family or friend, just register it (with their agreement) at sign up to get the discount. (mimimum top up on PAYG is £10 every 3 months).

    brilliant, thanks :)

edited to add* just as an update thought I should post that BT have sent an engineer out this morning (Sunday) and the phone line is now operational again meaning the bb is too. I know that this wasn't actually a thread about the line but thought it better to at least add that they have been out to fix it and quickly too.

Don't let that stop you getting your MAC and switching to O2.

No chance lol I have already rang 02 today (I have the MAC code already) but due to my line being down it will take up to 24 hours for it to show as being functional again and therefore able to accept a broadband connection. The guy I spoke to has arranged to call me back tomorrow. I did try to sign up online going through a cashback site but it repeatedly tells me that 02 bb isn't available in my area..when I know it is.

Confused though as 02 are telling me they can give me a speed of 2.5meg, I can't honestly remember if they said UP TO I will ask again tomorrow but that's nowhere near as slow as what I get at the moment. I know that some mse'ers get lightning fast speeds but out here in the sticks 2.5meg is a dream come true lol

02 would not quote you 'up to 2.5Mbps'. The base package is 'up to 8Mbps'. If they have quoted 2.5Mbps then I would be very surprised if you didn't get that, as I've always found their speed assessments somewhat conservative.
However please bear in mind that this is subject to BT fixing the noise on your line, which will reduce your speed if not sorted. Switching to O2 will not remedy this if it's a line fault on the local loop.

the noise has gone! It was like a crackling on the line or a low hissing sound if that makes sense? The engineer today had to replace the line that goes from the house to the telegraph pole across the way so I can only imagine that was where the noise was coming from?

Either way I'm off to 02, from what I hear and from what I have read their customer services and reliability are far superior to BT and that's definitely what I need.

Good result. Now, just out of interest, retest your line speed and you may well see some improvement.

So a 250% speed increase was well worth reporting the fault for..that speed may well increase in the next few days following the resynch of your router.
